Disappearing Dugan - Latest news

16 posts in this topic

Maybe it's the pressures of the modern media driven game but some players, especially creative ones, seem to be cracking up under that pressure.

The trials and tribulations of Ben Barba have been taking the headlines in the last couple of weeks with speculation ranging wildly from him missing the whole season or being back within a month or so having undergone treatment and a course of guidance and help. News is that he's back from rehab and is wanting to get back on the pitch asap.

This week it's the trouble of Josh Dugan making the news. He's upset Raiders with his behaviour off the field and his no-show at training since the game last weekend. It's come to the point where he's been called to explain himself in front of the Board. Again there's speculation that he might not even turn up for that summons this Thursday. Up to now he's not been in touch with Raiders to say that he will be there at the meeting.

Some folk have him on his way through the exit and on to another club, eg St George Illawarra or to the other code in France.

One of the Raiders Rules he's supposed to have broken is having a drink while injured.

Now I'm not suggesting that that was anything more than a social drink that broke a club hard and fast rule.

The drug problem in sport isn't just the performance enhancing stuff or even the recreational powder/pills. It can also sometimes come in foaming glasses.

The media has more or less got Josh being sacked or walking first.

He comes across both now and in the past as somebody who doest respect anybody but himself. I never understood why Canberra pulled out all the stops to keep him. Reece Robinson is a talent and has shown up well last year as well as in the allstars game. Canberra would do well to get rid of the troublemaker and not let him even train if the players are so against him.

It could be that he wants the Raiders to get rid of him, and the stramash with Dave Furner is the catalyst for this.

His options in NRL appear limited. Some clubs said to be interested by media have said no they're not.

Just Dragons keep being mentioned.

Raiders have set him free. Any club wanting him will have to ask NRL to register him. Given the reasons given for his sacking this may not be a formality.

Other clubs keep saying no but Dragons still seem to be favourites to take him on.

Raiders have been brave to sack him when, let's face it, their need is great.

There's talk today that they will not ask for the NRL to impose a heavy lay-off from the NRL for Dugan - maybe just a month so he couldn't line up for say Dragons against them.

Dragons No the talk in the media is that Dugan is up in Brisbane about to talk to Broncos with a view to signing for them at some point.

Cory Norman is going to Eels next season - he's signed on there for three years.

That frees up money at Broncos to help keep top players on board and potentially sign on Dugan on a decent contract.

Duges said a few things to a fan he was arguing with on Instagram yesterday just as the Broncos were going to announce his signing. The Broncos had no choice but to call it off at the 11th hour.

Looks like it'll be Dragons or O/S. He really needs to give up posting on social media sites if he can't handle/ignore fans talking ######.

What the????

If that's true then the bloke needs to sort himself out. Either that or go sit on the naughty step.

1st May 2013:

Controversial fullback Josh Dugan has been pulled from the NRL wilderness and thrown a one-year life line by St George Illawarra.

Well that sounds rock solid, but it is supposed to be officially announced on Friday.

I guess all concerned will be holding their breath until then, hoping that nothing untoward is said or don by JD.

Hmm ?

Peter Doust says Josh Dugan did himself no favours by snubbing the Dragons last month but concedes there's still a chance he could end up at the joint-venture.

Reads more like a 'maybe'.

They're saying they went into 2013 "under the salary cap".Considering who's been signed & still dangling carrots at Dugan n Chase it must have been a long way under

What do you think of the signing as a fan RLW?

There's no doubting his playing potential. Are you confident or just hopeful that he'll not let himself and especially the Dragons down?

I can't see him setting the world on fire at the Dragons this year, but if he gets resigned next year with the new players coming, him and the Dragons will return to the top of the table again.

However if he does hit his straps - surely that is the best back 3 combination in the Comp.:- Morris, Dugan and Nightingale (what a strike force).

Credit where it's due, he did hit his straps and had a great debut against Eels. Dragons looked far more dangerous in possession than of late. He gave the Eels a lot to worry about.
