Just read the sad news on twitter that Sky's Bill Arthur is suffering from Prostate Cancer and has been for 12months. Amazing that he has carried on doing his job every week with all the treatment that entails

Get well soon Bill!

Sorry to here about this, never met the guy but always comes across as really nice bloke, hope everything gets sorted for him soon.

It may explain why I have wondered in the past why he some times seemed to disappear from Sky's coverage.

Hopefully it's a case of living with it rather than the worse case scenario.

Best of luck to him - always enjoy his input and long may it continue.

Bill is a top bloke who loves Rugby League. I have had the pleasure of meeting him a few times, you could not meet a nicer man than Bill.

Best wishes Bill.

Shocked by this news this morning. All the best to him. And I hope he's coping with it as best he can because he certainly has appeared that way on screen.

Its a big problem Mags. Men (me especially) prefer to stick their heads in the sand and ignore it.

Radical Robotic Prostatectomy is one of the more successful surgical interventions, I hope he gets the opportunity to get it done. Good Luck Bill.

Yep. I must admit I check myself regularly now after my sister was diagnosed with cancer in September, and I've had a lump checked out that I've been ignoring for years! All clear, but absolutely stupid, why do we do it?

All the best to Bill on his recovery.

Hopefully this isn't said in the wrong way, but with this news and with Purtell's return, is this an opportunity to have another round of fixtures to raise awareness of specific problems? I thought too State of Mind and/or RL Cares were a bit under-represented last season.

I can only echo these sentiments. Hopefully he'll get well soon. I've dealt with him a few times when he's done reports on various things I've been associated with, and he's a top man - very knowledgeable about the game and a true professional.

Yes, I agree that I think some things were done slightly half-hearted.

I'm hoping this doesn't derail the thread too much and it doesn't become a "look at what the NRL do" thread and any cynical attempt to flog more shirts... but I'm glad you agree anyway, perhaps there's another thread in it.

That's a very good idea.

Nothing wrong with cynical attempts to flog more shirts if awareness and money are raised - and the shirts aren't ######.
