Alex my grandson has just learned that he has been accepted as a volunteer for this year's world cup

I'm extremely proud of him.

Those on here who know something of Alex's background will understand why.

Congratulations!

Just out of interest, did we do the volunteer thing for previous World Cups?

Good news. Congratulations to Alex and to anyone else on here (or related to anyone here) who's getting involved.

Just another reason Chris to be proud of Alex. Despite his problems, he has often shown that he doesnt let it stop him from doing things he wants to do.I am sure he is proud of the work you have done over the years in the game and maybe has been the inspiration at times for him. I dont agree with you on many areas but that doesnt mean that I dont respect what you have done and still do.

I think it was a great idea to have volunteers, People like Alex can be part of the world cup and feel they have played a part in it instead of just watching it. It may only be a small thing, but I do feel it will help people feel something more for the World Cup and the game. I heard on the internet radio a couple from Suffolk who have no idea about rugby league and have not once watched the game applied after missing out on volunteering at the olympics. They have now taken to watching the game and learning about the sport and its history. I hope the WC is a massive success, not just for the game in England or even the International scene, but for the many volunteers from various walks of life and they can say I was part of a great event and want to watch and be more involved in Rugby League in some way.

Best of luck KT.

Without wishing to divert the course of the thread, would it be possible to make this the general 'RLWC volunteering thread'? I for one would be really interested in hearing people's stories about the experience. I'm rather jealous.

Although I know nothing about Alex, your wording suggests you have every right to feel extremely proud Chris.

A very big well done to the young man.

(So, how long a tactful period do you have to leave before you start asking him to get you some free tickets? )

Like OF I don't know about Alex, but your pride shines through and I'm really happy for him & your family

As Browny says, I'd also like to hear more stories - the couple from Ipswich is brilliant
