Question for Leeds Fans

21 posts in this topic

Been watching Super League for 4 years now and always get a kick out of Leeds home games where the fans play drums and horns while singing their "fight" songs. However, there's a song I've heard before, but can't readily identify. Saxon used it in their song "Run For Your Lives".

I can't sing it here, but taking a quote from youtube it goes "AAAAAAAAAAAEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE AOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"

Can a Leeds fan explain to this ignorant American what that song (or chant) is?

Thanks

Its quite hard to tell exactly which one you mean but i think if thats all thats in it they are shouting "Rhiiiiiiiiiinoooooooooooos" to the tune of the "Last Post".

Its a bugle call used by British infantry Regiments used often at military funerals and ceremonies.

Can anyone come up with a plan to stop Leeds fans singing that stupid song at the beginning of games?

It's embarrassing.

Wheres the poster who put all the words to "Marching on Together" on here a few weeks back? He was embarrassing!

The song isnt, and its now become a bit of tradition, stolen from Leeds United but adopted as a Leeds song.

Just listened to "Last Post" and that sounds about right. Been wondering that for years, especially after hearing that Saxon song back in 1985. Thanks for the inside tip :^) And thanks to everyone else!

To answer a previous question, I'm hiding here in Idaho. I know, crazy place for a rugby fan. Saw my first Super League game four years back (Hull vs cant recall exactly) and I liked it. Wanted to cheer for a team. My grans was born and raised in Leek, Staffordshire, so I chose the closest team and that was Warrington.

Am I mad or what? Who cares, lets cheer for rugby! :^)

Not seen Philadelphia fight yet,but one of the bars I go in the young bartender told me her boyfriend plays for fight and I gave he an old Rhinos shirt and Sinfields testimonial shirt for her boyfriend, and he had actually heard of Sinfield and wears both shirts for leisure

I keep meaning to,but it is quite a way from where I live

I bet it's nearer than me. Seriously, they only play four or five home games so you don't get too many chances to see them.

Isn't the "tune" copied from that sung at MLB games (Cleveland?) ?
