7 reasons why Rhys Evans should wake up, smell the coffee...

.....and switch allegiance to Wales for the World Cup.

Rhys Evans looks a great young prospect but:

1) he's Welsh (you'd think that would be quite important)

2) he has little chance of making the England squad for the World Cup

3) these opportunities come fleetingly so he'd be a fool to squander his chance

4) playing in a World Cup is a great chance to establish himself as a top player

5) his brother will also be playing for Wales (think about your poor parents!)

6) the GB team will be reinstated soon anyway

7) even if it isn't reinstated, rugby league's eligibility rules are such a joke that he could swap straight back after the World Cup anyway

8) HE'S WELSH!

Swallow your pride, Rhys. Pick up the phone and tell Iestyn you've made a mistake. We can all see that's the right thing to do, so why can't you?

It would be the best thing all round if he played for Wales, better for him, better for Wales and better for the world cup.

Better for him if nothing else. If he doesn't see sense his only contribution to the World Cup will be taking out a subscription to Premier Sports!

I completely agree with this, utterly and totally. We need a true independent board to run the international game, sell tv rights and to organise a rolling international programme. Not rocket science. Oh and bring back the Lions...every two years with the home nations playing in a ladder - winner plays England, who will also play the exiles in London on ANZAC day.

Vision needed.

Also, where is Brian B, what is he up to....we need leaders !

Is he good enough??

For England? Not this year.

He'd make the Welsh squad though (although some humble pie may need to be consumed first).

Currently he ain't good enough for internationals full stop, too many injuries and struggling for form.

I agree. The fact that Rhys Williams is currently Wales' record try scorer suggests he might be if use to them though.

I agree Potts but one thing, his old lass is English so she would probably be chuffed.

IMO hes nowhere near England right now

just to add as well....

people use rhys evans as a example as to why we should go back to GB because "that'll give him a chance to play in big games"

had rhys opted for wales he'd have won the european cup by beating france, played eng,nz &australia in the 4nations,played at wembley, played in the world cup and have nigh on 20 caps all by the time he's 22years old...

its plain to see that by opting for england he made the wrong choice

Exactly.

If it was GB, he'd have played in none of these. And he still may have opted to be English.

Point No.1 didn't seem to matter to him when he declared himself for England, so as far as I'm concerned, he could be the best player in the world and I still wouldn't want him in a Welsh shirt. Some things shouldn't be forgotten, and cannot be forgiven.

Perhaps he just sees himself as dual nationality and would be proud to represent either Wales or England. The fact that England offers him the best career opportunities (no matter how people try and package it on here) is something that needs to be addressed.

Good point.

It's his life, his choice. Maybe he doesn't want to upset his mother.

If he volunteers for Wales, obviously we'll have him like a shot.

His brother played well yesterday; just needs to re-distribute a stone.

That may be true, and had it been the case that he would happily play for whomever came calling first, I wouldn't have a problem with him playing for Wales or for England, but he came out and said he wanted to play for England rather than Wales, and effectively told the world that we were rubbish into the bargain.

It was his choice to make, and now he's made it, we should help him stick to it, regardless of whether he's eligible to play for Wales or not.

Do you have a quote on that?

I don't think they say anything out of order in there.

I didn't say that they did. You asked for a quote from Rhys Evans saying he was choosing England over Wales, I provided one.

It was more this bit I was interested in:

effectively told the world that we were rubbish into the bargain

There was nothing like that at all, picking England over Wales doesn't mean Wales are rubbish, just like if he'd have picked Wales over England wouldn;t have been a slur on England.
