Your England team to beat the kangaroos

62 posts in this topic

I've been thinking about this and I reckon we need more than one team to win the World Cup, to match the styles played by other teams. But to beat the ozzies, I'm thinking how we match up. I have this team in mind, with a drastic tactic......... We sub our three quarters at 60 minutes to defend! I think this is our biggest mismatch especially in the centres

Crabtree instead of Mossop and that's probably the team that I'd go with.

Reading Warrington fans' thoughts on here and the other board, a lot seem to think Westwood hasn't really been playing too well, or at least not hitting the top form of the past few seasons. Now, if this is somewhat true, does this place him in the bracket of players who have to play irrespective of form? Y'know, like Sinfield and Chase and Wilkin and Jones-Buchanan...

I would be perfectly happy with your side. I would be very unhappy if your prediction of McNamara's side is accurate. Sadly, I fear that you are probably very close to the mark.

Not fussed about the odd tweak.

Key areas would be :

. balance in the pack between power and tackling with good edge defenders

. speed, threat and size outside

. multiple pivots for kicking

. game changers on the bench

. mongrel - I'd seriously consider Ryan Bailey here if Hock wasn't good to go

Watkins is a right centre (3) and I am pretty much certain Reed plays on the left (4).

I think you are a bit light at prop. You need more than three props to beat the Aussies; my opinion of course! ;)

Put Sinfield at hooker, similar to Cam Smith, great leader, tackler, good short kicking game and awesome at conversions. Sinfield is never an international stand off , to small for a loose forward. Replace him or move him when the aussies are tired and let Roby works some magic.

looking at the general run of scrum halves no one puts myler in with a shout, he is improving every week. He has also been superior against Brough in every recent encounter.

The policy of playing people in the wrong position (just to get them in the side) is always a mistake we seem to repeat.

Chris Hill must be the forgotten man, he is a fantastic player yet hasn't been mentioned once.

I thought that too, however two posters have included him. But I get the point.

Westwood, Mossop or Crabtree depending on form, Roby or Burrow depending on form but I would seriously consider Higham who I feel is having a great season.

We don't have a team capable of beating the Aussies.
