Great night at the lisdoonie for the James Bond themed casino evening . Well done to all who organised the event and to those involved in the presenting and performing ;). The generosity of people who attended amazed me . Truly have the club at heart . Onwards and upwards :)

I agree. Fantastic night to be had by all. I'm sure there will be a statement down the line about how much the club raised but it should be quite a bit. Well done to all, especially Dave and Dawn.

Thanks to everyone that went to the Casino Night. The total raised for the club was over £4,000. What a great night.

Thats really good news . If the same event can be aranged every fourtnight with the same money raised throughout the year then the club wll raise the cash it needs to survive

I've already checked the laws regarding poker nights, the max that you are allowed to pay out in one night is £100.

Thinking of the poker night and could it not be organised that all the pubs in the area(Barrow Dalton and Ulverston) are invited to hold a poker night then the 2 top players from each pub goes on to a finals night in the raiders bar where the winner gets the £100 prize. If there was enough players maybe 2 semi final nights leading to a final night, all 3 to be held in the raiders bar.

Entry could be £10 with the winner from each pub getting £20 and runner up £10, pubs could be asked to sell a raffle or a football card and all money raised (entry fee and raffle/football card minus £30 for 1st and 2nd) pooled together and the final £100 deducted should give a nice sum that could go towards the floodlight fund.

If qualifying nights were held on different nights losing players could try their luck again at a different venue upping the total fund.

It's only an idea that can be added to but personally I would keep the entry fee at about a £10 so more people could be interested.

bloody hell paul...i only wanted a game of poker and you have to spoil it with fundraising...lol

you could have buy-ins at a fiver to raise more and a finals night at the club. like has been said its £100 prize per night so I would suggest 60% of the night in prize money to a max of £100 the rest to the floodlight fund so if you win and there have been 3 rounds (nights) its possible you could win £300. I would also have as many final tables as you can. more entrants more beer sales.. ;)  ;)

I can assure all that read my post that it certainly was not meant to be sarcastic it was merely pointing out the massive task that remains. As for anyone thinking that I am negative over the future of the club then you are certainly wrong. I am proud that I have rolled my sleeves up on 4 occasions since the start of 2011 to ensure the survival of the club. I have also invested hundreds of hours and thousands of pounds to see the Barrow Rugby have a chance to continue.  I have had many bad comments from many fans and supporters over the pat 2 seasons which would have turned many others away from assisting further.

I remain proud of what I accomplished and the BoD all know exactly how much time and effort I put in on the 2 occasions when the club faced certain closure.  Meetings with creditors debtors, accountants, solicitors and many meetings with the RFL provided the pathway forward.  I left my position last year as Chief Financial Officer due to the majority of Board members that blew hot air yet never came up with the goods. Those Board members that remain on the board that have stepped up and started raising the required money for the future of the club deserve a medal.

I stand by my post , every member and supporter that attended the meeting in 2011 heard Alan Stoker announce that the club needed to Raise (not borrow) £100,000.00 for its long term survival. Unfortunately the realism for floodlights and not only staying up in championship for next season but financially being stable is far off.  I would love to see the club fighting its way up the league table in championship without spending money it can ill afford but IMO the club needs to step back and rid the remaining debt before moving forward.

Good luck to the Directors for Friday. And as a couple of them already know should they need my help then I would not turn them down.

must admit i didnt think it sarcastic..but you have to understand that people are not privvy to the knowledge that ex board members have and statements can be taken the wrong way without the general public having the facts.
