the kill one

Oh how i wish the club had a few quid. The for sale signs have gone up at the kill one going up for auction with a guide price of 50k.

Imagine no more room hiring needed. A place for all fundraising events, presentation evemings. Do's and great nights out like in the good old days of the old 'rugby club. Not to mention weekend superleague somewhere warm!

The usage would be unlimitless. A nice new kitchen to provide hospitality post match pre match. Run by the right team could even eventually turn a profit?!

I'm afraid that would just be the start. I think another 50K would be needed for improvements and working capital etc. Great idea though, Lynn.

imo forget the new lights and put a bid in for the kill one. it will give us more returns and income every year than what having new lights will give use.just wait for july and this  vote on the new  leagues structure and the goal posts for staying in certain leagues will be changed again.

how many tv games or flood lite games will we actualy play this year?

NOT MANY.

Kill one would be an ideal club reception/bar pity a deal could not be struck with the owners and we don't have the cash to support it.

It seems to me that £K 50 is ridiculously cheap for premises that size. I suppose there is some sort of restriction on the use of the premises so that it has to continue as a club/pub.

That being the case it might be in both the vendors and the Raiders best interest for the club to have a lease purchase option rather than seeing the building laying empty for a prolonged period?

Isn't it typical that this sort of opportunity should come along now when the BOD are so focused on the short term cash flow problem?

Like all these opportunities the nettle needs to be grasped, but that's easy for me to say 200 miles away.

There is talk on here that some of the Directors of the Raiders could step in and do a bit more, (IF) that is the case "now is the time for all good men to come to the party" as the saying goes.

Just out of interest does anyone know why the club is called the "Kill One"

I know it was really called "The British Working Men's Club"

My Dad worked for Barrow buses and regularly used to drink during the day there. That was in the old club next door to the bus depot.

I know it was one of the Barrow clubs that opened during the day.

Barrow was fairly unique in being able to drink all through the day before all day licensing came into being in the rest of the country.

But why Kill One?

What I have heard is that the original "Kill-One " was the nearest working mens club to the steelworks and the workers used to come in making the comment" I could just kill one" and the club got the nickname. If any ones knows otherwise please post

I heard that it was called the kill one because the membership was that popular that you had to "kill one" to get in!! How true I don't know.

The Story I always was told that it related to it original location (somewhere near Blockbuster/Frankies and bennies) and the ship yard workers would finish a hard days graft and on their way home they would see the Club and say "oh I could just kill a pint" = kill one! But I'm sure there is many a story why.
