Losing the Toss

35 posts in this topic

You lose the toss, your opponents choose ends ... you have to kick off, don't you ?

You don't get to choose whether to kick or receive.

Not a big deal ..... but I just wondered.

Can do - but usually the winner chooses to choose ends.

I'd have thought it would be better to kick to the opposition. That way you start the game close to their line and get to put some fierce, intimidating defence up and at 'em

Take your point - but it depends - what if the sun's low but will set within the hour ? Or there's a wind ? No guarantee it'll still be blowing in the same direction in the second half. Most captains choose ends.

Anyway - that wasn't the question.

What a great idea !! I always wondered why we needed a bingo partner. Instead of the coin toss, we could have a bingo duel between the two captains.

No chance of there being a full house though it it's a <insert club name here>.

Depends on the ground. At Batley, we always assume that the winner of the toss chooses to play uphill first half.

When I witness the coin toss between Kevin and Danny  23 June, I shall ask all these pertinent questions and will not act like a 14 year old schoolgirl , no siree bob      :girlhaha:

I always thought you had the choice of either kick off, receive or which end. The other captain will then choose what's left

If you win the toss you can either have the kick off or choice of ends.

Yes ....... and then ?

Again, not what was asked.

OK - I've answered it myself. Law 5.2 - the captain winning the toss either kicks off or chooses ends. So if he chooses ends, he doesn't kick off.

Thanks to everyone who at least bothered to read the question.
