Would people like to see the final played as a curtain raiser to the challenge cup?

It may well be a good idea, or perhaps tie it into the Exiles game so its in the heartlands

I personally would love that to happen but can't see the RFL ever going for it. Not sure the Championship clubs and supporters would either?! It would be interesting to hear their thoughts but it would be an awesome experience for players.

Always liked the idea, turn it into more of a day out for the entire RL family.

Interesting! I have the same thoughts but not sure if certain sections of fans would entertain this due to bitterness towards SL etc. It would a fantastic event.

Would love it - the more RL I get to watch live the better!

Why not add it into the Magic Weekend?

I'd do that, not sure if the FA would be too pleased with back to back RL games on their hallowed turf...

Just to be clear, the Challenge Cup already sells quite well including to Championship fans, so it is unlikely to have any significant boost in attendances of finances. But it would lose the income from the NRC final as a standalone event. It would also make it into an afterthought as all the attention will be on the Challenge Cup Final while, as much as it is, it does generate some interest on its own.

And won't somebody think of the children! If you play the NRC grand final you deny them the kids the chance to play there in the schools final.

You are not going to get that many turning up before midday to watch the NRC, especially if it means setting off extra early from the north, which is when it would have to be played. The BBC will still want the Challenge Cup at 2.30 so they can show Final Score, and you would need to leave time between matches in case extra time is needed, so with time to take care of the pitch it would probably need to kick off 3 hours before that.

The only benefit to doing it is it would be cheaper for fans who would have gone to both.

I would foresee a lot of arguments about the finances even if the other problems could be overcome.

Do they have enough dressing rooms ?

Just to be clear, the world cup semis will be buggered if they do not!

Fair point !!

Challenge Cup's been a double header every year since we went back!

Just remind me how long the Under 11s play .......

It would immediately devalue the Northern Rail Cup, reduce the interest in it amongst casual fans & the media, mean the RFL draw less income, and create issues in terms of ticketing, sales, marketing and promotion for the day at Wembley.

Brilliant idea. Let's do it.

We had the double header in 2011 and will have another this year.

I'm sure the FA are fine with it. It is special, semi-artificial turf after all.

The way London are playing at the moment could well mean that Sheffield could find themselves in the semi finals for the first time since they were cannibalised by Huddersfield.

I fail to see how you can promote a final for a competition as a curtain raiser for the challenge cup, when all participating teams in the former are also participating teams in the latter.

Well that appears to be the plan for the NRC this year, with the new plate competition being a curtain raiser to the main final.

That's not quite the same though is it?

To qualify for the plate, you must surely have been eliminated from the NRC or am I missing something?

It was tried before back in about 1997 I think when the plate final was held at Wembley before the CC Final.  Only did it once so guess it wasn't thought of as a success.

I saw it as a success, mainly because I backed Stanley Gene to be man of the match.

It was very much a success for both clubs. Raised a lot of publicly for the clubs playing at wembley. More than it would for at the shay. The semi finals were more intense, as the prise was to play at wembley. Thousands of fans from both clubs turned up to the final, by the second half came 50000 people were watching the match.

Not many semi pro players will have the chance to play in front of such crowds.

Plus wembley struggles to sell out, so it can only help boost the attendance
