RLWC opening ceremony clashing with Welsh RU season.

Just thinking about the games, it's a Saturday in full swing of the Union season in union mad Wales... Surely many thousands of players in South Wales alone will be playing their 2.30 kick off union games would have liked to have enjoyed this one off occasion.

Not a criticism as such as its the best option for the majority of northerners travelling down, but a bit of food for thought.

RLWC have a target of selling 500,000 tickets for the competition.  Many of these will be to existing fans, some will be to people who would watch Union and many will be to people who are new to rugby league but will want to get involved in the major sporting event to follow the Olympics and Paralymics. Whenever the organisers schedule the competition it will clash with some other sporting events.  I am sure there will be Cardiff and Swansea soccer games on too but they have to promote the RLWC as the spectacular event it will be.  Anyone who watched Warrington v Wigan today (24th June) can cite that game of how exciting Rugby League can be,

Put it on another weekend and someone will complain it clashes with the Eckford sweet pea festival.

One day we may have the confidence to not give a flying about what the rest of the world is doing, but I should live so long.
