Michael Dobson to NRL

6 posts in this topic

Michael Dobson has been much in demand.

Salford wanted him, but Hull KR said no.

He had an NRL release clause in his contract with KR and this has been used by Newcastle Knights.

Dobson will be joining Knights for the 2014 season after 6 years on Humberside.

Is this one of those daft transfers where Salford will now buy him from Newcastle or do they need a half.

As a lapsed Hull KR and now neutral NRL fan I'm really pleased he's made this move. I'll be interested to see how he goes as from my initial exposure to NRL it seems there aren't many players like him in the league in terms of build. He's very slight and my initial fear is that he doesn't have an "NRL type body". Having said that, he tackled above his body weight in Super League and if he can be given adequate protection his kicking game really is exceptional. On balance, I'd say he'll go well and having worshipped the guy for 5 or so years I wish him all the best and will definitely have a soft spot for the Knights next year. Sock it to 'em Dobbo!

Michael Dobson inspired Hull KR to a fourth straight Super League victory at the expense of St Helens.

The Australian half-back, who revealed this week that he will join Newcastle Knights next season, kicked six goals and proved a major threat all night.
