Cricket - The Ashes

We could bring in our Irish fast bowler or, at a push, Yorkshire can provide a Zimbabwean batsman and a Pakistani off spinner.

Capacity crowd? 17,500? for an International?

We play Australia 25 times this year in total. All part of the restructuring of the international schedule. So this Test is part of a 'first to 13' race. England will bat first, having won the toss.

98-2 at lunch… honours just about even. Swing for the Aussies, Trott in decent nick, and KP warming up. By all accounts the pitch will dry out more and is already dry, so a good first innings score is needed.

That's almost how they're deciding the Women's Ashes.

One Test, three ODIs and three T20s ... 6 points for winning the test, 2 for winning the shorter forms.  Team with most points wins the Ashes.

Down to Bell and Bairstow already; I reckon they both need a decent knock to keep their place, because Ravi Bopara is back in favour.

Australia 24-3!

i thought Australia were unwise letting Cowan bat at all. He had been on and off the field all day, presumably suffering from the wrong sort of runs. When he batted, he was out first ball.

Maybe he had the Trotts but he wasn't in the runs?  ;)

From Twitter: "This is the worst Australian collapse since poor old Helen Daniels fell down that flight of stairs in Neighbours." :D

Poor concentration by England.  Just do what you did to get out the other 9 batsmen rather than chuck the ball up thinking it's a tail-ender on his first cap.

Maybe the word got out that a three day test match not including at least one weekend day is not great for the game's bank balance...  Not many other excuses for Finn bowling as he did.
