Keith Mason's Action

Recommended Posts

Keith Mason has taken action against Huddersfield Giants for wrongful dismissal, according to the Hudds Examiner. The report below reads that he is suing Hudds Giants, although that doesn't seem to be the right term for a wrongful dismissal case. This could be one that a tabloid newspaper picks up, owing to some seemingly lurid content and  Mason's links to famous people.

It won't help the club's finances if he is successful in obtaining £300k.

Frightening that an extremely ordinary player like him could be claiming £300k for loss of earnings. How long was his contract 100 years?

It works out at about £90k per year, £75 to £100k should be minimum wage for an RL player IMHO!

You have just caused Gary Hetheringtons head to explode!

No insurance?

I don't know how this would apply to the salary cap, even with insurance in place...

I'd have thought that Ken Davy would have ensured that the club has the right insurance in place given his background.

It's off-topic for this thread but I completely agree with you.  The salary cap gives a lot of professional players a very low wage for such a short career of under a decade for most at maximum earnings, in return they get physically pummeled in a game and most likely retire with permanent physical health issues.  The only reason I've not brought this up elsewhere is that there's simply no money to pay for a consistent higher salary cap without bankrupting half the sport.  As it stands, if everyone in a SL 25 man squad got the same salary then they'd get £66k each, that doesn't happen though and even one or two players on over £100k each means that much less for everyone else.

I'm not a Keith Mason fan, I thinks he's wasted his talent and never grown up. Good for him though, RL clubs have to behave responsibly even when thy have somebody on the books they don't want anymore.

This should count on Huddersfield's cap too.

So if Huddersfield are paying the full cap this season, they should be deducted points for breaking the salary cap?
