Larry the Leit

TRL helpdesk - watching TV abroad.

13 posts in this topic

I'm currently spending a lot of time in the Netherlands, Belgium and France on tour with my band.

I have an iPhone, and I would like to watch BBC, , catchuptv, C4 etc whilst away, and use iplayer and Skygo and given that I pay for both I don't think that it's unreasonable to do so. Most places I stay have free wifi, and BBC1 & 2 availible on the TV.

There are a few apps with extremely low ratings on te App Store which claim to be able help but the ratings suggest otherwise.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to work this through?

I don't know how it works on mobile devices, but I watch the terrestrial channels for a £5 a month via expat net.  Works a treat.  And it claims to work on mobiles....

And I do still pay my tv licence in the UK, and my sky subscription.....

The BBC iPlayer does not work outside the UK.

Well in theory not. Just like Sky go, tvcatchup, skybet etc. However there are ways to make them work by subscribing to a service or finding a reliable UK based VPN.

I'd settle for a reliable paid service or a reliable VPN.

Had a quick look, seems iPhones aren't prominent in their listings....

Many thanks to the poster that sent me a PM within minutes of me starting this thread with the name of an free app for watching UK terrestrial TV (plus other channels too).

It's not totally solved what I wanted to solve but it's a great start.

Have things changed with this (filmon.tv) service?  I connected last night to watch something and couldn't find the BBC channels or C4 etc?

Has anyone ever used Slingbox (?), and more importantly does anyone know if Premier Sports online service can be accessed whilst on tour with my band in Europe for the World Cup?  I'm not coughing up if I can't access it for understandable reasons.

Just to be clear, Larry isn't in a band and trails round Benelux configuring COTS packages for minor local administrations.

Rubbish. I've heard his band and they are great.

I'm hoping that as they build up a support base in Europe we can draft them in as our entry for the Eurovision Song Contest.

Imagine the feel good factor if they could win that prestigious competition!

Carry on gigging LtL.
