With you on the shoes thing.  I've never had a pair of Barkers but have a lovely pair of Church brogues.

About twenty years ago, I was never seen without a pair of Loakes brogues with a Dr Marten sole on 'em.

The Citroen DS with full leather interior (none of that velour nonsense).

An impeccably trained dog.

I've finally given up on my old Loake brogues.  They'd been resoled 4 times and the leather around the big toe crease was starting to crack unacceptably.  By far and away the most comfortable shoes ever.

I tried a new pair a couple of years ago and they ripped my heel apart, the back stitching was just too stiff and tight.  They went back, the replacement pair did the same, they went back and I didn't bother again.

Fountain pens

Ah, now I was going to start a new thread, but probably won't, entitled "things that you own that are naff".

Fountain pens are wonderfully cool.  I however have a collection of Mont Blanc (including four of their fountain pens) which when put together is naff.

My wife uses a fountain pen, I must start referring to her as Her Coolness.

Plain Zippo lighters, and no I've never smoked.

NO, No, No

I have smoked and the zippo is just American tat. Back in the sixties the height of European cosmopolitanism was the IMCO 6700.

I had one and I lost it at EXACTLY the same time as I lost my virginity on a building site in Spain. Ironically I had to go to Spain to lose my cherry to a bird from Coventry!

Thanks for the info on the lighters. I stand corrected.

As for the other information it made me feel ill.
