A month's holiday

Oldham played at Rochdale on 15th August.

Week off this week - Challenge Cup Final.

Week off next week - odd team out of nine.

Week off week after - not definite, but a good chance of it, depending on results.

Next game in Week 2 of the playoffs, 15th September.

Great preparation for the business end of the season......

Luck of the draw, I guess. Somebody had to have a week off, just happens to be Oldham.

Plenty of time to recover from injuries etc though,

A smart fixture planner would have given the last week off to a weak team.  Having had a bad season, they'd probably be well chuffed to have their season ended by mid-August.  People do some jobs much better than computers.

When they were planning the fixtures and based on last years displays, perhaps they thought Oldham would be a weak team this year.

that's exactly what Chris Hamilton is trying to organise. Could be a good warm up for the aussies maybe? Afterall last time we played them we nearly beat them ;-)

You mean one of the new teams for example? 2 of the 3 are in the playoffs.

Fair point

Everyone was expecting Gateshead to make the playoffs with the new teams propping up the bottom.

Oldham could well still get automatic promotion.

Only the second team gets a week off (other than the four who will have finished their season anyway).  I still think the RFL could have made a better guess.

Do the team that finish first get automatic promotion?
