I've got a feeling Hull will do everything they should have done last Saturday, and Wigan will be suffering the traditional post-Wembley wobble.

Wigan will be without a few of the Wembley players I would imagine. Lockers wasn't fully fit and Goulding got a head injury. I think Shaun Wane will rest a few ready for the Leeds match before the play offs.

This is the match I want Hull to win to set up the Wigan/Leeds match next week!

Hull will win this. Wembleyitus along with Wane resting a number of the team will probably make sure of that.

I think Wane resting players is the wrong approach here as the team has lacked momentum and consistency over the last month or so. We should be trying to build form.

Regardless though, if we keep playing like we did on Saturday we won't trouble anyone in the playoffs.

i think wigan will want to carry on were they left off and make a statement,i hope hull make  it a close game but it will be hard to bounce back from the last game with nerves a plenty. should be a cracking game but i think wigan will win 32-14. i did have a chunk a change on hull to win last week by mind 10. :pickeat:  so what do i know.

It's disappointing as a fan because I want to go and see the first choice players play, however I do understand why coaches do this. Wigan have finished in the top half of the table already, so to a coach this is a meaningless match and he can rest players before the playoff matches. I do expect Wigan to play a full strength team against Leeds next Thursday as a warm up match for the playoffs.

I'm old enough to remember the days when teams were fined for playing weakened sides.

yes. ...but this Sandy Powell?  That's taking things a bit far!

Weren't Saints a disgrace for doing this?

They'll still probably do Hull.

I think Saints were a disgrace because people thought they were putting out a strong squad when really they put out a bunch of kids on game day. That's what lead to the squad announcement system, which seems pointless now if teams are just going to announce they're putting out a bunch of kids!

You may be correct. Hull have a fair few players out also, due to injuries and suspension from their Wembley "effort".

I think it will be fairly close but Hull will be fielding their most competitive side as they can't really afford to do anything else so, having seen the Wigan team, I'll be disappointed* if we don't pinch the points here.

(*Prepares for the usual post match sensation.  :( )

Wane flagged this up with his comment about 6 or 7 players who would not have normally played after last week's match. It distorts the competition and short changes the fans. I am not sure it's going to do much for our season ticket sales next year, but where Leeds had lead the way we are looking to follow. Something's very wrong with the competition structure though when this is the best course of action.

It was worse when Saints did it of course.

Hull squad:

Tom Briscoe, Josh Bowden, Jason Crookes, Ben Crooks, Chris Green, Dean Hadley, Richard Horne, Danny Houghton, Danny Holdsworth, Paul Johnson, Liam Kent, Jacob Miller, Jay Pitts, Jamie Shaul, Danny Tickle, Liam Watts, Joe Westerman, Richard Whiting, Kirk Yeaman.

Wigan squad:

Joe Burgess, Dom Crosby, Gil Dudson, Ben Flower, Anthony Gelling, James Greenwood, Jack Hughes, Ryan Hampshire, Rhodri Lloyd, Dominic Manfredi, Andy Powell, Sam Powell, Scott Taylor, Iain Thornley, Lewis Tierney, Logan Tomkins, Chris Tuson, Tom Spencer, George Williams.

No McDonnell, Arundel, Lineham, O'Meley, Lynch, Ellis, Heremaia, Galea.

vs

No Tomkins, Charnley, Goulding, Richards, Smith, Green, McIllorum, Hansen, O'Loughlin, Farrell and Mossop

8 first teamers out vs 11. Fair to say that Hull have some fairly good strength in depth it seems.

How many of the Hull players were available to play? None perhaps.

How many of Wigans were available for selection ? Most if not all.

Hull are picking their strongest team, they need/want to win.

Wigan are selecting their "weakest" team, perhaps they can afford to lose.

This could affect several teams in their struggle to get the best position in the play offs. It shows a lack of respect to their fans and the RFL.

If I was a Wigan fan I might pick and choose my games and give this one a miss!

I don't think it shows a lack of respect to the RFL. If the league was valued more and meant something teams would not do this, but the way it stands at the moment, why not give your starters a week off and use the rest of the first team squad who would not normally get a chance for a week and then bring the starters back just before the playoffs to try and win a trophy. This match is irrelevant to Wigan, it doesn't mean anything as there is nothing to play for. Already finished in the top 4 so why risk injuries after a week of celebrations.

I agree! Of course Leeds have done it to an even greater extreme over the last few years and sadly teams won't stop doing it until the league is valued higher or there is significantly greater benefit in the play offs to finishing higher.
