Why does it say Chequerfield (leap) in brackets??

One of them (can't remember which) owe some fines / fees so they are hedging their bets till they get league approval...... True

There are some poor teams in a once proud cup, the level will be diminishing year on year until a resolution into the management of the amateur game is found

Don't get me wrong there are some good sides there but some very poor sides too

Always had good and poor sides in the county and national cups, I remember in our 1st season (West York's div 4) beating Bison Sports from the Yorkshire premier.

We where also the lowest ranked side in the challenge cup one year, we beat the team that was at the top of the NCL at the time away 18 - 13, then beat the best team outside of the NCL at home 14 - 12, we then went down 64 - 18 against Whitehaven who at the time where at the time top of their division and hammered Hull KR the week before.

It's called the romance of the cup.

Some poetic licence used there, Jim.

Askam finished bottom of the Premier and Skirlaugh were definitely the best side outside the NCL.

Still a fine achievement, though..

what difference does it make if there are some "poor" teams i the cup? they've put their hands up, are prepared to travel and have a crack at it. some of the best away days are when you travel to a far superior team in the cup. you have nothing to lose and then theres the booze bus and a couple of stops on the way home

It's a good job you aren't the competition organiser, the first round would be the semi final.

I have no issues with teams trying there hand, my comment was more aiming at the lack of quality at the higher end of the competition, can ncl clubs enter their first teams ?

It would be good if a few ncl clubs entered

Yes they can but the NCL fixtures get in the way and only flex one way at the start of the cup competition.
