great to see featherstone choke again in the play offs...............well done the gallant youths

Well Widnes never got far enough in the Championship to have the chance to choke did they?

Well done Batley and good luck for next week. Yet another brilliant advert for the game below SL.

It's been a traumatic season for the players with three changes in coaching staff and to win the league title for the fourth successive year speaks volumes for the character and ability of the lads. Much to be proud of despite today's result.

No 20 page thread tonight from the attention seekers. Ah well.

Well Larry...at least our 20 page threads are generally positive, unlike our neighbours up the road who sadly tend to attract attention for the wrong reasons. Never mind, it can only get better.

Congatulations to Batley. Rail Cup winners a couple of years ago, consistent top 5 championship team and now grand finalists. Why they can't even draw a crowd to rival Barrow and Keighley is just a mystery to me.

The grand final against Sheffield, another team with difficulties attracting spectators, could result in a very low crowd, but that's the way the cookie crumbles. At the height of RL's post war boom we got a Workington v Fev cup final and a low attendance.

Good luck to both finalists and with Leigh the Northern Rail cup winners and Crusaders the double in the lower tier, the honours board could be a real surprize if Batley pull it off. The SL could also contribute to honours diversity with a Huddersfield win.

There is a nice geographic spread of finalists also with a Lancashire winner, a guaranteed Yorkshire winner in the championship, a guaranteed Lancashire winner in the CC1 playoffs, a Welsh double winner, a London finalist. Nice to see. Spread the wealth around.

They're not positive. They're insular, conceited, sly and boring.

If Donny can beat Batley who can beat Fev who can beat Cas does this make them an SL club?

After all Donnny have the ground and BTW I saw something about the soccer club and the RL club being jointly taken over with a chance of a bid for SL??

A club which has worked hard to do the right things both on and off the field. What happened yesterday won't halt the momentum, that's for sure. Funny how insular and boring threads can turn into twenty page marathons. Doesn't make much sense really, does it?

Listened to the match on Radio Leeds. Sounded a cracking match. Really pleased for John Kear. Good to see a different club getting a shot of glory. Helps to keep the game fresh by different clubs getting their moment in the sun.

Absolutely! Despite my disappointment, it was good for the game as a whole and I wish the Bulldogs all the best for next week. It might be a poor crowd but so what? The two competing clubs and their fans won't worry too much about that, should be a cracking final.

Not sure a fan of Widnes can laugh at "choking in the play offs"

Did you go to Headingley for your play off against Cas?

i did kenny and knew before the game that players hadn't been paid for 2 months, so they didn't bust a gut, did they. the blackest day in our illustrious history when we also went into administration.....bur it was also the start of a brave new world for the club.

And got yourselves a place in SL through a short lived, flawed and disastrous system. Thank your lucky stars you didn't have to play your way in.

The staff at the club are great.  But they don't post on the twenty page marathons.

mate rest assured if we had to play for a place we would have won it, from the advent of licensing (which was the best thing ever to happen to academy development in this country) widnes ticked the on field box early and went on to build the club into a viable super league outfit, is that too hard for you to understand that on field performances had a minor effect on whether you were granted a license or not, along with have double the average home attendance of any other club and showing a trading profit, as well as a robust financial plan.........that's why we got the license!!

So your fans who turned up to matches were short changed for a couple of seasons then? As I said..a flawed and disastrous system which has rightly been given the boot.

What a turnaround. I suggested Doncaster as a place for a possible SL team and you opened up on me with your full armament of smoking 18 inch guns. I'm glad you have seen the light.

All important stuff but this is a sport. Results on the field should be the first determinant with the other stuff ancilliary and maybe a determinant why promotion should be denied if not up to par but rthe firts criteriojn considered should be results on the field.

Widnes played the game as the rules were at the time. If the rules had of been different who knows how it would have panned out on the field.

In any case the reality is a SL place is a key to bankruptcy unless you can get a 7k or 8k home gate average or have a backer.

The accepted home gate was 10,000. Are you fudging things to fit the Widnes reality.?

I don't get why fans of Championship clubs are bothered about how Widnes played the game in the Championship.

At the end of the day we got to beat them comfortably and enjoy beating them for a few seasons. That's what sport is all about at the end of the day.

a couple of seasons? check the results mate, our last season it was when the team was breaking up in order to recruit. but don't let the facts get in the way of your delusions.

Between 2009 and 2011 we met you six times I believe, we won four and you won two.

The 38 - 0 win in the play offs sticks out though.
