Some sidestepping action

10 posts in this topic

Casting my mind back over the decades, I have to say, that the best side-stepper I ever saw was our very own Derek Whitehead. Not too far behind him was the great Ken Gowers.

Regarding the clip from down under. Great attacking play, BUT, haven't teams given up on striving to DEFEND anymore?

Also, noticing the over abundance of huge playing surface advertisements, demonstrates, at least in my eyes, just how grossly (and tackily) over commercialised rugby league (and sport in general) has unfortunately become nowadays.

Danny and Tommy Frodsham had pretty decent sidesteps too

The point of the posting of this video is to demonstrate that the aussie rugby is not robotic or systematic.

There is a huge amount of flair which is why we can't beat them!

As for commercialisation ..... surely that's what we need a swinton to facilitate the constant calls for a new ground?

As for commercialisation .....

If you read my posting carefully you'll note I included the word 'over' before 'commercialised'.

Yes of course we need to be commercialised as a club as does any sporting entity today.

It's when it goes too far that it can become distasteful - at least to some of us that is.

Danny Wilson the best for me, but then again I'm only a youngster. Worst rule change for me was going from 5m to 10m at the play the ball. Bit more guile was required previously and tries were harder to come by. But it's all personal taste I suppose.

Keith,

When Ken and Derek were sidestepping on the Station turf, there were advertising hoardings around the ground, it's nowt new! And....................

When you were watching them, which message-board did you post on when you got home? Then.................

After turning off your computer, which batteries were in your remote to switch over on your multi-channelled colour telly?

Time has moved on, both on and off the park!

Technology is far better, and so is the product served up by the guys who play the Greatest Game on the Planet!

Embrace it mate, coz it is not going away!

Spelly.

OVER commercialisation is what I find tasteless. Adverts on perimeter walls, stands, programmes etc, nothing wrong with that at all.

On the pitch itself and to a degree, the playing strips, is a real big turn off for me. Surely there are some out there who also think along these lines.
