There is no update. The BOD don't have any carrot to dangle and all the local candidates seem to have ruled themselves out. The job would have been a much more attractive proposition if Barrow had been relegated.

You might get Catic after all

The BOD may have to ask Darren if he will come back, at least no further money will need to be found as his contract is already paid for the next 12 months :blackeye:

Unfortunately the appointment of a coach is always a challenge not helped by the clubs isolation from other rugby league areas. Unlike M62 clubs, Barrow, has to all to often rely on an out-of-town coach unless there is a local candidate. Whilst there will always be good local coaches, the quantity of these will always be limited.

This issue also highlights a big problem for Barrow as a club - that of travel. A coach traveling from M62 land will have expectations (not unreasonably), for expenses to be covered and probably for their travel time to be taken into account. If you have someone that has 4hrs driving back and forth, plus a minimum of a 200 miles journey, then you can see the challenge for the Directors in striking the balance between budget and experience.

A coach can cost Barrow more in fuel than it does in salary, and the only winner is George Osbourne!

The same dilemma is true for out-of-town players, who have expectations of travel expenses - costs that aren't excluded from the salary cap.

You can see the reason why for Barrow, Haven, Town and other isolated clubs that an overseas player or coach that relocates to the area is often the best-value option.

Would he want to go back? The club is looking pretty silly at the moment, lets hope it gets sorted soon.

I dont think the club are looking silly. Surely its a process of elimination. And why would the BOD make a statement till its been finalised.

It has become a joke and then we are going to have to listen to the board come out with the usual rubbish of how the newly appointed coach was the outstanding candidate and that they have always been high on the short list when we all no now they are scraping the barrel to appoint a coach...

How do you kmow there scraping the barrell

What Livo said.

Unfortunately it's always a difficult appointment, and the board aren't in an enviable position. They're damned if they do, damned if they don't.

I don't see what the rush is personally. We've got our best players from last season already signed on for next year. Whats the difference from having a coach now and having one next week? Are people suggesting that pre season training is supposed to start in the first week of october? Lets wait and see what happens, hopefully the right person is appointed.

At least give the board a chance.

we could have binned 30-40 comments on here. of course there is no rush but the board made a 24hr decision to get rid of holty as fast as we did. why the rush to say tara to Darren and have nobody as a serious replacement for the job. Christ he couldn't even turn up as the current manager at the end of season awards. have the board been a little trigger happy? only time will tell.

have we saved any money on the lights from the park.? put some of the savings towards a good coach salary.

You don't see what the rush is??? Read the league express / league weekly Monday and look at the recruitment drive going on with other clubs. It would be good to have a coach in place so he can identify players he wants (obviously within the pay structure of the club) rather than been left with players other clubs don't want. I agree the best part if last years squad is still there but it needs adding to considerably.

Go to agree we need a coach ASAP as this is the time of year the super league clubs are getting rid of the academy lads not good enough for SL and whoever is coach will have to start looking for potential recruits before the other championship clubs grab all the decent players

I would like to think that Steve Deakin would be able to return as until he fell foul of DJ we absolutley blitzed all during his brief reign. Hopefully a statto would be able to confirm this.

Otherwise we still await 48 hrs Phew

Your right when Deakin was in charge we were unbeaten, but from what I remember he was relieved of his duties for comments made to a player during a training session?

Dave Clark has left South Wales to take up a post with RFL in Cumbria

Looks like he is replacing Stuart Wilkinson at the Cumbria Academy at Lillyhall, Workington. Wilkinson has gone to UCLAN, Preston as a lecturer and also part-time assistant coach at Whitehaven.

That has to be the lowest rung on any Rugby League ladder!
