XSLF were really good last night. I couldn't imagine seeing the fingers without Jake Burns singing but the music made up for it. Proper stripped back stuff, it was exactly like seeing them back in 79/80. Really small venue too -brilliant night.

Subhumans this Thursday at Vampire in Bradford. Not seen them for absolutely years. They once played in the Vaults Bar in 1983, which was a hangout for local biker gang Satans Slaves. Let's just say it was scary.

There's loads but it all depends what sort of music you are into. There's certainly no shortage of new bands playing live, in many musical genres.

I'm into rock music Johnoco but i'd prefer to see a band writing their own stuff ...............also any guitar band music............

Did the own material/chasing the record deal back in my yoof. Happy enough to do covers these days, also we have noticed that as soon as we say "this is one we wrote" you get people calling fag time and a general lack of interest. Particularly in the pub scene.

You need to write songs whose intros sound a bit like something famous. Then by the time they realise it's one of your own, hopefully they'll be enjoying the song anyway. ;)

I'll be going to Soundwave festival in Brisbane next weekend - mainly heavy rock and metal stuff (not really my scene) but Green Day are topping the bill, plus Stiff Little Fingers....Yay!!!! Seen them many times but not for ages, so that will be awesome.

Then four days later it's the mighty Bruce Springsteen, which is always amazing.

I love going to see original local bands in the small bars and pubs but sadly on the Gold Coast where I live there's not much of a scene.

Melbourne where i used to live was fabulous for it, though. Probably one of the liveliest live music scenes around.

Oh, and for you people on England, get along to see Mike Peters of The Alarm on his current tour - it's the 30th anniversary of The Alarm's Declaration album so he's playing all of that (new versions of the songs), plus other Alarm stuff. He's one of the best singer-songwriters you'll ever see...trust me

Should have been going to see Motorhead at Manchester Apollo this evening but the tour's been cancelled due to Lemmy's ongoing health problems.

I hope it's not the last time I've heard Lemmy tell the sound desk to 'deafen the mother######ers'.

Are RBF and LTJ joined at the hip? They always seem to tour together.

Saw Gaz Brookfield, supported by Lonely Tourist, on Friday. If acoustic/folk is your thing I highly recommend both if they're playing at a venue near you.
