World Cup Final November 2013

I agree, England played a brilliant 60 minutes and showed that though we weren't quite there - We weren't that far off.

Onward and upward :)

but haven't we been saying this for 20 odd years?

I'm not convinced

Aussies had plenty in the tank

Aussie vs kiwis regardless of what

Is concluded from today's performance.

;)

Not a bad game that! Too many penalties and simple errors in the second half. Thank goodness for the Burgess brothers tho

Which ones - the ones who made loads of tackles and metres or the ones who kept dropping the ball, giving away penalties and who should have been sent off?

One interesting stat was the number of Aussies who are 29+. Someone could turn them over, but it probably won't be us.

We just don't have the half backs to dictate the game. Cronkite and Thurston ran the game, Sinfield tries and Chase is hit and miss. Australia v NZ final

A decent halfback combination would have pushed us over the threshold today - quite blatantly, in fact. Too bad that we don't have any other options in the squad whereby the coach could remedy this. Chase was anonymous in his restricted role, and Sinfield at scrum half? Quite possibly the most baffling (and bafflingly enduring) selection in the history of the sport.

The game changer for me was when england were 10-0 to the good, and the kangaroos brought on Fifita and Corey Parker.they gave great momentum to the Aussie pack and room for thurston and Cronk to play...anyone who watched state of origin this year would know how well these two forwards played....great preperation for test rugby eh? Better that a week in South Africa me-thinks........... :-)

Agreed. Creditable performance by the England lads though - they were better than I ever thought they would be. The game didn't alter my opinions of macnamara as a coach though, particularly his team selection. Two square pegs in round holes at halfback ensured there was no credible threat from there, and Mossop, Ablett and Cudjoe are not any where near international standard IMO. Even Charnley looked out of his depth and I thought he might be a stand out player. We should qualify to the next round, but there doesn't look much chance of us being in the final.

I hate to sound like I'm defending SMc but coaches before him have been equally guilty of the same thing (remember Farrell at stand-off). The fact is that we don't have any decent half-backs in the country who are prepared to play for England at present.

I also think we could well get to the final - we have a decent track record against NZ on our own patch - but if we did we would get hammered this time. the Aussies will have shaken off the rustiness by then.

Rumour has it Tomkins started life as a stand off. ;) Chase to scrum half, Widdop to fullback, Hardacre to centre, Burrow  to the bench, sinfield to loose forward Burgess (subject to availability) to second row - simples.

Burrow to scrum half and chase to the bench.

Burrow to scrum half and chase to the bench.

Reckon Burrow is a better impact player, and he'd be covering half back and hooker - big ask if you start him.

The RLWC games have all been great so far - something of a throwback in fact. Played in "proper" RL conditions with bags of commitment, no little skill - tough but honest.

So what if the Aussies will win it again in the end? The games in the meantime have been a joy to watch (thank you Virgin Media).

Absolutely, did you watch the NZ game? Every hit was a huge collision!

I was talkling to someone prior to the world cup and they couldnt see the point in the world cup, that the finalists were obvious etc. They were keen to keep a Tri Nations as those were the only real contenders. But just this first week has shown us how far some countries have come in terms of development which can only be a good thing. And hopefully, in the coming years more and more locally born players will saturate the sides rather than Aussies seemingly claiming residence everywhere and anywhere. For now however I do recognise the benefit that overseas players bring the likes of the USA and Italy et al.

Still, to get back to your point BSJ I have to say I am completely with you on this one - Quality, spirited, international rugby league every night, who cares who wins!

Such a shame the BBC or another free to air channel couldn't be bothered to show more interest. Just a highlights program during the week, even via the red button would do.

Maybe Premier is the way forward for us RL fans.

The best teams with the best players don't guarantee the best game and ultimatly following sport is about entertainment and enjoyment. The so called lesser teams have made this world cup so far for me.

You and Piggy are beginning to sound like an item. :O Anyway, just because some of you clever dikkies have got 'premier', doesn't mean sky is rubbish. The Indian Kabaddi on Sunday, for example. was very exciting - the beach volleyball from Sydney was tops as well. 8)

...and only £27 per month, whereas we have to put up with RL on Premier FOR FREE!

Even so, that didn't stop me driving to Hull KR last night for more live action - always better than the telly don't you think?

Not often you see Hull and Live in the same sentence. ;)
