The King Of Leon

Are you looking forward to next season ?

Would have thought that 32 games would result in a massive increase in costs to the clubs especially those at the top of the table due to additional win bonus`s travel costs etc. Personally would love to see 32 games a season but I doubt that it will be feasible.

32 games is too many ... 16 is too few. 24 is about right but playing everybody three times makes for a hell of a lot of travelling.

If we had an even number of teams, one option would be to have two "sections" of north and south and we, for example, would play everybody in the north section four times and everybody in the south twice - gives 26 games with ten teams.

But we need Coventry (or somebody at any rate!) to join to make that work. However you try to come up with a fixture formula for a nine team national league, there are going to be issues and imperfections.

Yep - if teams are going to play each other more than twice, those teams will need to be

the nearest geographically you would think.

This used to happen years ago when Leagues were big and you might only play a Lancs clubs once but play Yorks clubs twice...........

Assuming there are 9 teams in the Division next season what about starting the fixtures

with every team playing each other home and away = 16 games. Then splitting the league

into two, 4 in the top section and 5 in the bottom with the teams then playing each other home

and away again. This would give the teams in the top section a total of 22 fixtures and those in

the bottom section 24 fixtures. All points gained in the first part of the season would be taken

forward into the second shorter part of the season. One advantage would be to make the last

part of the season competitive for all teams and give the lower teams something to play for in

the latter stages. Perhaps a trophy for the team winning the lower section of the league would

create a bit of interest for their fans. At the same time the top 4 teams would have a real battle

for the last 6 games of the season with the winner and runner up being promoted?

By the way apologies if this has already been suggested but I just thought of it this morning and

have been away on holiday so am not sure if any plans had been laid out by the RL.

How about home and away = 16 games, then after first eight games use the league positions to determine rest of fixtures, ie 1-3,4-6,7-9 playing home and away giving a total of 20 games. Then have a cup competition for championship one, based on same principal whereas after first eight games determine which group they go in. 1st = group 1, 2nd = group 2, 3rd = group 3, 4-6 are drawn to see which group they play in, as is 7-9. This will give each team another 4 games, then top team from each group go through + best 2nd placed team to go into semi-finals.
