Petition: Allow Malta to participate in 2017 WC qualifying

This was posted in the international section but I felt it was worth posting in here too to bring more attention. The RLIF are planning to exclude Malta from entering the 2017 RLWC, despite the fact that they meet all the entry criteria. This is unacceptable since the World Cup is supposed to be open to all nations and shouldn't ever be run as a closed shop. Sign the petition to allow Malta to compete.

It'd be good to know why they are being excluded..

I thinks it be default if they use a comp for qualification that Malta aren't in but surely now is the time for a proper European qualification competition? I can see it being a decent set of games in itself promoted as the road to 2017 and should involve as many teams as possible

What is the criteria for entering World Cup qualification?

Having some knowledge of Maltese RL , the only issue i could see would be the lack of teams in their competition.

european bowl last time I think, as well as automatic qualification for other teams. But I'm struggling to think who came through the bowl.

Absolutely. Development Manager Anthony Micallef has done some great work there. Malta has been a superb host to visiting RL teams. I was privileged to be involved with England Lionhearts in the first ever RL game on Malta in 2005. All the players in that Lionhearts squad cherish the memories. It was even on national tv there. I think Rob Potts has enjoyed a visit there with his Leeds Akkies. Wonderful place, wonderful people involved. I have signed the petition. Hope lots of you will. We are only talking about the qualifiers initially after all.

Signed.  However this needs to be picked up by a lot more people I feel.  Please push it out via facebook/social media wherever possible, and try to get as many people to sign as you can.

Signed. The qualification process should be a celebration of all the countries which play Rugby League. To limit it to a handful of randomly chosen nations is a real let down.

Just done.

Nobody should be excluded, if they meet the criteria. The more teams that play, the stronger the comp. it is good for marketing potential to sponsor, especially if we aim global.

Ive signed it. Our full back at Eccles played for Malta and thoroughly enjoyed it. They were a very "together" group of players and if they meet the criteria, of course they should be included.

They meet all the criteria, they are presumably being excluded because the RLIF don't want to run a proper qualification tournament again.
