Can anyone explain why BARLA have scheduled the opening county U19/open age matches on the same day as the NCL grand final, which now means Cumbria will lose its Wath Brow players from both teams.Surely playing it the following weekend would have made sense

Probably because the same reason the NCL schedule games on Grand Final days and magic weekends and the pro clubs schedule scholarship games on National cup weekends.

The sooner the game comes first and not individuals we may just get to a better place

Didn't think the grand final had been rescheduled, but anyway its still a crazy situation to be in and the people who suffer most are the players.

And that's why RL in this country is in such a bad state " whats the saying its good to talk " too many goons in prominent position on ego trips with the games best interest as the bottom of their priority .

That was mentioned a week ago.

"Sorry" I'm working off the RFL Calendar, so it could change at any time, especially if BARLA have something organised.

Official BARLA match report

Lancashire Double Sets up ‘WAR OF THE ROSES’ clash for BARLA U19’s

Lancashire U19s 24  -  CUMBRIA U19s 14
at Blackbrook ARLFC

Lancashire Under 19’s got their campaign underway defeating visitors Cumbria and know they have to defeat Yorkshire in a double header in two weeks time to regain the title they lost twelve months ago. Although the point’s difference is the same a draw is no good to them as Yorkshire scored more points in their victory at Cumbria seven days earlier.

For the Cumbria side it is a dramatic turnaround from last year and like their Under 17’s side they finish winless and wooden spoonists for this season.

When Cumbria cut the lead to four points in the second half it looked game on but Lancashire’s fourth converted try three minutes from time meant there was no was back for them.

Lancashire earlier trio of tries came from Danny Fallon (Wigan St Judes), Adam Wilkes (Leigh East), and Liam Marshall (Wigan St Patricks) with three Tom Worthington (Leigh East) conversions.
Cumbria’s brace of four pointers came from Josh Proctor (Elverson) and Pat Wells (Edgemont Rangers) and they trailed 18-8.

On 67 minutes the lead was down to four points as Scott Rooke (Hensingham) crossed the whitewash and Kristian Tyson’s (Askam) extras made it 18-14.

The visitors took the game to Lancashire but their defence unit held firm and went back upfield to score the match winning try on 77 minutes as skipper Joe Prior (Wigan St Patricks) stormed over the line and Worthington added his fourth goal of the game.
