Catalan Dragons sign Sydney winger

1 post in this topic

Catalan Dragons have signed Sydney Roosters winger Michael Oldfield on a two-year deal.

The 23-year-old Tongan international was tipped for greatness in 2010 when he played 24 times for Manly Sea Eagles, scoring 14 tries. A move to the Roosters, however, made it harder to get first team rugby and last season he made only one appearance, albeit a scoring one.

He is renowned for his pace and versatility and is equally at home at full-back or centre as he is on the flank.

“The signing of Michael is a great news for the club. He is a young and fast player and his pace will be a great value in our backline next season," said Dragons coach Laurent Frayssinous.

"We lacked of pace in the past seasons and the addition of this player will allow us to fill this gap.”

The French outfit claim, after the arrivals of Jeff Lima and Ben Pomeroy, Oldfield is their last signing ahead of the 2014 season.
