According to League Express the Dogs have 5 players definitely missing on Boxing Day. Finigan (wrist), Faal (back), Davies and Applegarth (shoulder) plus Scott is suspended having been sent off at the end of last season.

However JK has definitely named 5 Giants who will be playing - Blackmore, Connor, Aspinwall, Mason and Johnson. He says this is the first step of their integration into the squad and shows that Giants are genuine about the relationship and not just offering players when they want them to have a game.

As we will have to rely on our dual reg players more next season it will be good to see how they fit in and perform against the old enemy on boxing day when:

A. If we lose and the game is a meaningless friendly

Or

B. We win then it means we will be champipns and Dewsbury relegated

Your club used at least 5 dual registration players last season and will probably use around the same number again this season, you blinkered tool. One of your clubs players even took his bat and ball home after he was dropped for Michael Platt - who arrived unexpectedly at your ground only an hour before one home game. I guess John Kear would rather use dual reg players who are properly integrated into his squad, as opposed to using randoms who pitch up with a pair of boots on a matchday. We've been using dual registration players from the Giants since 2010, and I haven't noticed any erosion of our 'identity' in the meantime. Probably best to go away and concentrate on funding your expensive squad for the whole of the 2014 season.

As Paul Anderson says it will be very useful for the Giants:

“Releasing five of our players for Batley could become more frequent,” said Anderson.

“There are times they could be struggling for numbers and could benefit from our support, while it could provide us with an opportunity to give some of our squad an extra run at a good level if we feel they need it. The Championship is a very good standard.

“So, in truth, all our squad could be made available to John at some point, apart from our overseas players because of visa regulations. Their deals mean they can only play Super League and Challenge Cup.

“Taken to the extreme, if Danny Brough lost form – heaven forbid – and we felt he needed to play extra games to try and regain that form, then we would ask Batley permission for them to give him a run.

“That’s what the nature of our partnership with Batley allows.”

Note Anderson's use of the word 'extreme'. On a t it for tat basis, and if I remember correctly, Glenn Morrison was gushing over the possibility of using Adrian Purtell last season until Visa issues put paid to things. Would he be of similar mind if the likes of Luke Gale or Gareth Carvell were offered in 2014? I'd also note the statement ; 'we would have to ask Batley's permission'. I'm aware of several occasions last season when John Kear was offered established Giants first team players. Quite rightly, he turned them down. I see no reason why that attitude will change in 2014. Fortunately, we also have a chairman who, as an actualy supporter of the club since childhood, will not allow our club's identity to be eroded under any circumstances.

Jimbobram; we haven't used Giants players at the expense of our own like almost every other club on the DR system. As mentioned, one of your own players quite rightly walked out when a Bulls player was picked ahead of him an hour before the game. We had the farcical situation at Swinton last year when any Tom Dick and Harry was turning up week in week out from Wire, and a similar situation at Hunslet. When you've played the game to its' fullest extent, don't come over all righteous when another club uses it, and actually uses it in the manner that it was originally meant. I'm sure that John Kear doesn't intend playing 5 at a time, that would completely destroy his thought process in signing an almost full new squad, rather he will use Giants players to bring along his new and less experienced players, without ignoring his own players' needs. If you go back over last season, it was very rare that Batley ever used more than 2 DR's at once, unlike SOME others.

The ones he is using tomorrow are mainly those who are new this year and he is using the match to integrate them into the system etc that we use. Surely that is what pre-season matches are for surely? By doing this, if these players are needed later during the season then they will know what the systems are and also this match will give JK an idea of their strengths and weaknesses in match conditions.

But is it fair to play them against such wesk opposition? I would have gone for the BISSA commitee just to make a contest of it ;)

I've not spoke to any Batley fa nwith any concerns with the way that that JK is using/has used the DR system. I think we've got an exciting blend of young and experienced contracted players. They will be supplemented by some young and upcoming Giants.

It's unbelievable I thought everyone would of backed off with DR with what has happened this last couple of months S/L are only interested in themselves and getting there players ready for themselves the championship teams should stand alone and give there own youth players a chance that's what used to happen especially in friendlies.

If any championship club DR they should agree that if a player comes across they keep him for at least 4 matches before he can return then at least the championship club has him and it would stop S/L clubs sending them for one match which does not benefit both clubs on the S/L one

Anyway have a good day and enjoy the game

We haven't had a single dual registration player turn up for one game to 'get fit' and then disappear back off to the Giants.

You guys over at Featherstone are very fortunate to have such finance behind you, enabling the club to run a full Academy set up and pay for a squad of around 35 contracted first team players. If we had similar backing, I'm sure we'd do our best to follow suit. In the meantime, we'll do our best to make ends meet.

If we have the opportunity to use four or five quality young players to fill out our squad over the season (we have over 20 contracted players and 2/3 triallists on board, which should shatter the ridiculous myth that we're 'reliant' on Huddersfield ringers), then so be it.
