Darts Merger

10 posts in this topic

Well it's that time of year, so thought if put this one out there?

Should there be a merger of the BDO and PDC? What would the pros and cons be?

COULD there be one? What would it take?

Which side if the split are you on?

Do the BDO even really exist as a professional darts organisation any more?

BDO run the grass roots. Basically when they get good enough the PDC buys them out. But they still run their own world championship.

The PDC only run pro comps and don't do much that won't turn a profit. They ditched the women's championship IIRC, and don't do much in terms of youth (although it's starting to change).

Over Ollie Croft's cold dead corpse. He hasn't forgiven the other lot and probably never will.

Hate all the rowdyness of sky's PDC darts, they have the better players but BDO has the history and the legacy. Phil Taylor wouldn't have won anywhere near as many as 17 world titles if they'd been one true championship.

The rowdyness is the thing which makes the darts as entertaining as it is though.

If darts didn't have it, it wouldn't be as popular as it is. The fact they've already sold a lot of tickets for the world championships at £150 each for next year suggests they're doing something right.

If you're referring to the 'rowdiness' of the PDC, then I disagree - it's the main reason I refuse to watch it. The PDC might well have the best players, 180's galore and glamour models escorting players to the stage through a rabble of drunken buffoons, but it's utterly charmless. The BDO World Championship has charm and tradition in buckets. Behind the times it may be in many respects, but sometimes that's a nice quality to have.

+1 'The Sun' of the TV.
