The trophy is named after the legendary former Hull KR and Wakefield stand-off Tracey Lazenby, who once nearly signed for Hunslet.

It was first played for in 1912 after (M,A,T Lazenby) known as Tracey Lazenby donated the trophy to be played for by Hunslet & Leeds with the proceeds going to junior rugby within the city. Leeds won that first game 14-6 and that continued each year until 1972 apart from 1943 when Featherstone played Hunslet beating them .12-11.

After 1972 the trophy was played for between Leeds & Bramley until the mid 1980`s.

It then wasn't contested until 2004, and all the games since then have been played at South Leeds Stadium with Hunslet keeping all gate receipts.

There have been 54 Lazenby Cup games between Hunslet and Leeds. Hunslet have won 16 Leeds have won 36 and there have been 2 draws.

Hunslets biggest win was 1940- 45-10

Leeds biggest win was 1972- 57-0

These facts were in the programme on Saturday

The Lazenby Cup was provided by a Leeds committee member and first played for in 1912. A nice story about George Lazenby the actor but unfortunately he wasn't born until 1939, 27 years after the first match.
