If people weren't prepared to pay it the companies wouldn't charge it.

Do you have a solution, instead of the blatantly obvious statements you keep posting.

1997-2002, then another two years in Sixth Form. It was always a good school, although I was and remain bitter about the way they ignored the presence of rugby league in the town.

100% agree

Went to the middle ones, first parents evening last night.

PE Teacher said he's doing well in all areas, however his rugby has improved the most, still playing union though.

I said its still a shame they continue to play union in a league town. Teacher wasn't interested.

Somethings never change

Academy schools can already alter term times if they want and this can cause a major headache if you have more than one child at school and a massive headache if the kids are in infants, junior and high school as mine will be. Often it's not about avoiding an expensive holiday, it's about not having a choice.

Further, modern education is so far removed from the 80's (I refer to a post above) that it is unreal. These days education is achieved through many varied ways that by-pass the classroom and parents are involved far more now than then. Academy schools can specialise, federate with other schools and taylor curriculums. For that reason I believe parents have a right to determine what their kids are exposed to and should be given time allowance each year to educate their kids as they see fit. If this is a foreign holiday then great. It's just as valuable as a week or so working in an office.

Is this why schools are turning out record numbers of kids with no ##### clue?  I've learnt plenty of things on holiday, but I'm struggling to think how they've enhanced my career prospects

The only issue I see is the nannying of children by the state. It won't be long before kids will leave school at 18 blinking into the sunlight thinking wtf?

However I don't think you're being honest about what a holiday teaches us if your parents understand how hard they are to save for and why you have holidays in the first place. Foreign languages, currency and cuisine (I refer to Blackpool here), communication, new experiences, history, travel, you name it. Holidays are also a great socialising experience preventing inward thinking, promoting acceptance etc. Unless you own a one man mine I don't know how you could avoid using these skills in any career.

I hope you are going somehwere interesting, you can then claim they are receiving education by learning about ancient Greece or the Roman Empire, Benidorm* doesn't quite swing it.

*Just noticed your getting them fat on burgers and teaching them that Mickey Mouse has ruled the World since 1927, take the fine.
