Immigrants cost the UK more than 5.5 times its entire GDP each year!

£3000 per day each! (Telegraph linky)

£3000 per day * 8,000,000 immigrants = £24,000,000,000 a day or £8,760,000,000,000 (£8.8 trillion for those who don't like all the zeroes).  Considering the UK's GDP is about £1.6 trillion that means we're paying out over 5.5 times our GDP on immigrants.  No wonder we're having to close so many libraries!

Note, I'm not really criticising the underlying substance of the article as it is as if they changed it to per year then it'd make sense if you twist the facts the right way, I'm more making fun of seriously lazy journalism that's probably got past a few levels of editorial reviews.

Really though, what level of idiot journalist and editorial staff would allow such a sensationalist headline to go out without checking the facts.  Did it not just ring lots of alarm bells?

Or alternatively their figure is £3,000 a year not per day. That is what it says in the title of the link you posted.

Obviously they fixed it :P  If you look at the URL in my shortcut it says "day" but now redirects to "year".

Don't worry, by the time the Daily Mail get round to reporting it, it will be £3000 per hour each.

It's a report by Migration Watch.

I hope they've printed it on double velvet this time.
