Probably been done before but whats your most overrated film?

Not necessarily bad films but films that didnt deserve the praise they got.

I'll start you off with The Dark Knight.

First was fantastic. Second and third had a little too much to live up to.

Watched both the hurt locker and zero dark thirty and didnt see the hype

Every single science fiction movie ever made, particularly those set in space and/or with "star" in the title.

Given that we generally agree on stuff I'm going to do what our yank friends describe as "calling ######" on you.

Sorry but I love sf

Almost all of Richard E Grant's body of work, with the obvious exception of Spice World

All the James Bond films with Daniel Craig, not because he's a bad actor but the fact the Directors/ Writers/Producers, have turned Bond into Jason Bourne with a cup of tea and a slice of battenburg.

That Star Wars come up as one of the greatest films of all times, whilst Twilight films are held to derision to a large extent shows that these polls are voted on by immature men with little understanding how how girls could like different things.  This pumps Star Wars and Star Trek up.

That said, the roles are reversed when it comes to books , where being aimed at women is seen as being more intelligent.

The new Robocop film has seen the previous one being held up as a classic of cinema.  I do not remember it that way.  Shawshank Redmeption made people happy, but I do not understand the classic status at all.

That makes a fairly wide generalisation that girls don't like SciFi, which to coin a phrase is illogical. Any science fiction convention has as many Bajoran women as Klingon warriors, nerdiness knows no sexual boundaries.

Twilight and it's ilk are very much aimed at a teen audience whereas Star Trek, Star Wars, LOTR and the Hobbit are aimed at a much wider demographic. I would take this as a more likely reason for the higher rating of these films rather than any stereotyping of SciFi and fantasy

It is a huge generalisation, but I think generalisations are reasonable when it come to polls and the like.  Certainly, the target audience of sci-fi is generally male and Twilight is generally aimed at girls (and indeed teen ones).  I think the people taking part in internet polls for the best film of all time tend to be young males, but it is just me guessing.

Generally, I think sci-fi does not get enough respect.  Certainly, people will read complete trash and wrongly think they are in a position to look down on sci-fi.

Battlefield Earth.  Commonly rated in the top 10 worst films ever.  This grossly overrates it.  It's the second worst film of all time, it's so bad that it can't even win worst film.

Platoon.  The only film I've walked out of the cinema while watching.  I've tried watching it since and I can find no redeeming qualities at all, I genuinely cannot see why people rate it.

Anything by M Night Shyamalan.

I like pretty much all the Coen Brothers movies, but just can't get in to TBL at all.

All the Harry Potter films. Some great scenes in all of them but as whole films very, very dreary.
