Is that you Eugene? Or another member of the Black Swans?

I have not spoken to Jesper since he has been over but from what I hear he's doing ok.

I will catch up with him in when Leigh Easts play St Judes 18s in the National cup Semi final and let you know how he's going!

I am afraid not.  Eugene is the fun one, I am the boring one! :D

An honest thought out reply from a honest transparent man

3 hours ago QuotePost by dave1981 on 3 hours ago

Dave Radley here – thought I would just put a statement out to give my reasons for stepping down at Leigh East as I’ve seen the posts on forums etc. and thought it best to share this.

When I was asked to take over from Gary Grainey part way through last season it was an honour to be asked to take over at Leigh East. Leigh East has been a big part of my life now for over 22 years and to be asked to be Head Coach is a massive honour. I still appreciate being given that opportunity and thank Dave Coyle and the committee for having faith in me and Gary Grainey for bringing me in as assistant at the start of last season. When I first came in as assistant to help Gary I really wanted to try to build bridges at the club as it was no secret that a lot had gone on and needed sorting one way or another. However, that proved to fail for me and there was clearly a divide and again this was well documented throughout last year.

When I took over from Gary myself and Kip had every intention of trying to rebuild the club and try to bring back all the true east people that had sadly walked away. We set out a plan and series of events to not only rebuild on the field but off it as well. To name a few things we had the lads in the gym in pre-season, an open session over xmas and a launch night at the club, all of which we put on the forum and invited all people associated with the club to attend and/or reported on how these events went. The reason for this being that the key thing for me was transparency and it was clear that a lot of people used the forum for information on club events.

The preseason proved to be a success with the aid of Dan Weaving as conditioning coach and the return of Chris Snape to the coaching staff who I must add has been a massive help for me throughout my time as Head Coach. Player numbers went up massively and all signs pointed to a successful season ahead. However when we came to within a few weeks of the season player numbers started to drop dramatically which came as a surprise to me. This carried through into the season and hit us hard – it’s a simple fact that if lads don’t train you can’t possible work on making things right. As a coach I have to hold my hands up and say that it was under my leadership that lads started to drop off which I will take the blame if lads didn’t want to turn up.

I did try to make other changes in trying to recruit past players/new players but to no avail. The fact still remains that some players do not want to play for the club because of issues with people higher up than me at the club. That is not me criticising people at the club it is fact, they weren’t my battles. I was, in the main, stuck in the middle which at times was really tough given I had good mates either side of the ‘divide’. I did cite family and business commitments which is true but I was willing to work with this if I thought I could succeed and make a difference at the club. I did become frustrated at numbers and more frustrated that players would not come back due to fall outs with current committee. At this point I felt I could no longer make a difference so thought it was best to step down now early in the season to allow someone else to have half a chance to turn things round because my hands were tied which is explained above. If whoever takes over can break down these barriers this can only be a good thing. The current crop of lads I feel would benefit from the experience of some former players as they are a good bunch deep down and deserve better than the results that have been coming in.

I will give my honest opinion on the support I have received from the committee. They gave me the job first of all to which I was grateful especially considering I had coached mostly at junior level and only worked with Gary Grainey the one season. My plans throughout the preseason were supported and I was left to crack on with the job which was good. I did request support on matchdays as I wanted to raise the profile of the club and get matchdays buzzing again. I have to say this is an area that has not improved in my opinion. I did ask could I bring Keith Latham in to which I was told that this wouldn’t work due to past issues. I also asked could I bring in Keith for the Launch Night but was also told the same. This is not me putting myself on a ‘side’ and criticising anyone I am just being honest because I think people wanted to know my thoughts and version of events. The committee does work hard and have helped me. However I feel that the help of people that are tried and tested at open age level is now needed. I asked for Keith to be involved because I have a lot of respect for him and he has a proven track record. I realised that things had gone on in the past at the club but I thought surely this could be sorted and everyone could work together to drag the club back to where it should be. I don’t feel that this is going to be the case personally and it’s a crying shame. As I type this message in the back of my head I am thinking ‘am I taking sides, what will people think?’…this shouldn’t be the case as it should be one club and everyone should be pulling together not locking horns all the time.

The fact still remains that knowledgeable, experienced, passionate people both on and off the field are banging on the door and not being let in because of personal issues. The club will never move forward until this is sorted and I am 100% sure of that now. If I am wrong and the club can pick itself up without this help then good on them and I will be the first to applaud the people involved.

Dave

I think the club should be banging on his door and drag him back with a promise that he gets the tools to do the job . What a crying shame , you have to feel for the guy

I did say I would not comment on the current situation at Leigh East but having read the statement from Dave I feel compelled to throw my ten bobs worth in.

It is clear from all the noises coming out of the club that egotistic people are destroying it..

I know there are many good people past and present at the club and I count most as friends despite being on the end of a disgraceful committee decision some twenty years ago that's an issue between two people at Leigh East and myself which one day I will get closure .

Leigh East have always been a club which was tight nit ( cut one and they all bleed ) and admired by many in the game , all that is now sadly lost as the opposite is now the case .

So surely the members of Leigh East must get their club back by challenging the current committee to come to the members with evidence of what they bring to the table and what their progress have been under their tenure , I am led to believe that the present club constitution has been changed to protect the current committee that surely can not be right .

It is well documented that Leigh East faced a battle with the local council and won that with the old Leigh East spirit ,helped along with others by Janet Pendlebury and Keith Latham .

I find it baffling that someone at the club would not want the likes of Keith to draw on his experience to assist Dave and his fellow coaches to help steady a sinking ship.

Surely the club can see the mess they are in and no doubt they will be working hard but maybe just maybe they are not focussed on the right aims and objectives ,

Its time for some at the club to start looking into mirrors and asking themselves questions are they in it for the well being and future of the club or are they just on egotistic power trips ..

Many inside and outside the club know the answer , for the good of the club and the town, if the cap fits  swallow your pride and ask for help from  the old guard or resign.

Good luck to muzza looks like he has a big task ahead of him in turning it around at leigh east.

Just hope he gets the backing from what appears to be a pretty egotistical committee.

I didn't say he was on coaching staff , got told today he as moved to north wales crusaders . The three coaches east did have in dave radley , Chris Snape and alan Hadcroft are IMO the best and I wouldn't change it for anyone , given time and support they would put east back were they belong

Was unlucky today east if they can keep that sort of side out they should start picking up the wins, if kilshaw was in that side i think he would give them that bit of spark and direction they missed today but other than that it was a good effort against a decent kells outfit

The unofficial forum seems to be the outlet that was needed to get some people talking and some people listening.

Fingers crossed people can get round the table now and get things sorted out properly, and for the long term, for Leigh East and the town of Leigh and surrounding area IMO

Hi everyone , as you have noticed I have not been on here for a few days . The reason being in that I was awaiting a phone call from Jim Hoffman the chairman . I need to put down here what that phone call was about

Jim rang me the other day and started having a go at me saying that I had told people that leigh east was going to fold . I said to Jim that I will swear on my grand children's life's I never said those words . What I did admit to was saying I was worried about the open age section of the club . Jim raised his voice and said " as long as me and david Coyle are in charge of this club you and janet Pendlebury will never have nothing to do with the open age " I said that's fine Jim , after a few more words were said Jim said " what I want is for you and your compatriots to come and help the club raise £28,000 . It took me two seconds( despite the insult about not being involved at open age ) to agree to help . Jim said he would ring me after the committee meeting on Tuesday .

I have just received that call and Jims words were , the committee have decided tonight that they do not want keith latham to help this club in any way wether that be with open age or to help raise the £28, 000 , in fact he said that if I was to come back to the club they would walk away from it . In my 1st phone call with Jim he said what have I ever done for this club in the last 3 years . Well Jim after looking after my mother who as deme ture and his very poorly as well as trying to get my head round that I had lost my remission for leukemia and just three weeks ago being diagnosed with heart failure , I think my family deserves most of my time .

Thank you to the committee and Jim Hoffman for treating someone who as been at leigh since 1977 like a lepper . I'm devastated , feel sick and can't think straight . Jim said that I and others have been posting negative comments on the forum that was opened a few weeks ago . I denied that and stand by what I have said

Thank you very much to the hundreds of people who have patted me on the back for raising the issues I have . Thanks for all the nice people in this world who have wished me well over the tough last 12 months . It won't be my last post and it won't stop me watching my beloved leigh east . One day I will speak to these people who made this decision , some were once friends . What goes round comes round

Simple, we need someone to stand for club chairman against Jim Hoffman, anyone half decent would be voted in. They would then have the power to get rid of others bringing the club down. They are terrified of giving the members a vote, they know what would happen.
