Why so many high scores in SL this round?

There was an average of 52.4 points per match. 4 of the winning 7 teams scored 40+ points and the lowest total score was 41. Why was this?

Warm weather, fast tracks, sub-standard defence. I think the answer is pretty straight forward.

very poor defence is the only answer

Once teams are aware that the game is lost there's a tendency to say there's another game Monday lets save our selves.

Coaches play the season not the game.

Pretty much what has been said so far.

Hot weather leads to tired defences and less dropped ball. With a game 3 or 4 days away teams if a game has slipped will just let it go so they can prepare for next weekend.

Combination of those two.

Would the introduction of a bonus point system as used in the Championships stop this practice?

As a fan of a Championship club I have witnessed countless games where the trailing team has gone hard for the full 80 in the hope of securing a bonus point.
