Hmmm! Not a great start to the build up. But we should be able to get around that and compete in this game.

Several DR players used by Town will probably miss the Rochdale game, selected for the 19 man Wigan Squad for Friday night.

Squad includes:

Gil Dudson, Connor Farrell, Anthony Gelling, Jack Hughes, Jordan James, Dom Manfredi and Sam Powell. They have also included the young Prop Ryan Sutton who I really think could have joined us on DR several weeks ago.

Even Ryan Hampshire will not be available ( if he ever will be) injury after the U19 game!

This is the downside to DR . There's no continuity or range for planning over weeks . So we just have to have the best of what they don't play week to week then . Does nothing for consistency but it looks like it's all we can do, as they're calling the shots .

Its only an 18 man Wigan squad so it looks like Murphy and one other at best for a huge game. Hopefully we won't take any Wigan players that aren't better than our own if that's the case. Lets go for our own players we have a squad to win at Rochdale without doubt they seem to have clicked without there saints lads!

Murphy

Carter

Rooney

Connor

Mossop

Forber

Callum

Shacks

Matty

Coward

Brett

Stack

McAvoy

Subs

Lupton

Olstrom

Big Red

Rowlandson

If all them are involved then other Wigan regulars should be available. If Powell plays then Williams should be free. I wouldn't panic, surely they will need to give charnley a run out before throwing him back into super league?

You are so right Gillmeister, only eighteen in the squad on the official site, however their twitter page includes Dom Crosby in the Squad, thus 19 players selected.

I don't know . Can we ever see them moving Dan back into the centres ? They're using him as an auxiliary prop , and even Shacks in the star praised Rooney and Olstrum for their work at prop !! Very strange . We've gone from a team based on props to the exact opposite. Connor needs to get his finger out as well . Bright start to the season but then pretty much back to the little we saw last year . We've had three glaring areas we needed addressing and didn't come close in any of them . And so strip DR away and we look dreadfully exposed . But we knew that a long time ago .

I agree, Kayle looked like our star player at the beginning of the season, but has been anonymous since.

It's such a problem position for us . Finding two potent centres who , if the delivery comes , you can bank on to make it stick . And who can feed the wingers . It's been a fair while since we've nailed those spots . We thought we had one with Rooney, but I don't know if they see his injuries have reduced his edge as a back ??Do you want you're main threats on the wings , like Sunday , or in the centres ? Carter doesn't seem to settled on the wing , maybe he needs shifting back nearer the action . What we are seeing is the big hole Eliott leaves . He carried so much of our threat . Best wishes to him and no mistake.

I think we have the centres in Rooney and Big Red, OK they may not be the finished article but surely we now have a coach who can get the best out of them.

Wouldn't argue when you look our resources . Hopefully Red returns . Is he training ?? Rooney , well , we've done that one . Who knows ? Murphy and Carter probably have most pace of ours , so it's fitting those in the right spots to . I bet Connor can gallop , but just that we hardly ever see it

Every time we get a player from Wigan they nick him back to play !!! Huge game this for us . Winnable game , good deck to play on , and a six pointer with them around us . Should be a corker . Half from Fiji looks a shrewd signing for them

The main problem with Kayle is he dosent get involved enough and to be honest has a low work output. On Sunday mossop ran from his centre to the other side of the pitch to take a ball in from dummy half. The whole set took place down that side and connor never attempted to get involved once. If you looked at his kit at half time he had the cleanest shirt on the pitch.

Rochdale - always a difficult place to go and get the 3 points so we have to be on top of our game. I remember going there in the 2011 season for a cup game and we were leading 20 - 4 at half-time only to lose the game 22 - 20, so we can't afford anything like that with this game.

Rochdale Hornets v Workington Town (3.00pm)

Rochdale Hornets will be looking to make it four wins in a row when they host Workington Town.

Hornets have beaten Whitehaven, North Wales Crusaders and Swinton Lions in recent weeks to climb above the relegation places.

But coach Ian Talbot insists they must be on their guard against a Town side that drew with Halifax on Sunday.

Talbot said: “They’re an unpredictable team because they don’t always have the same players from Wigan week-in, week-out.

“They had Sam Powell last week who has a good relationship with Jack Murphy at full-back, as well as Dom Manfredi and Connor Farrell all down the same edge.”

Talbot will be without centre Mike Ratu after he picked up a potentially season-ending knee injury at weekend.

Workington coach Phil Veivers believes he is now starting to see the kind of progress in his side that he’s been looking for.

Veivers said: “Last week was a massive improvement, although we do still have some issues on ball control.

“But there were lots of positives against Halifax for us.

“I’ve seen Rochdale’s game from the weekend, and they have a pretty big pack and some smart players in Ryan Millard and Paul Crook.

“They have plenty of threat and some speed on the edges, and we’ll need to be good across the park.”

Veivers’ only injury problem is long-term absentee Elliott Miller.

No wigan players at training tonight,we maybe see some on saturday.Connor has an injury but i think will play, big red always shows up for training but veivers does not select him, probably getting him fitter is the reason.Myself,i would play rooney and big red in the centres, they might not be the fastest but they make sure no one gets past them,we are definitely short of props but apparently we are short of funds so we can forget them and play with what we have got.The lads had another good session last night with ball in hand and going through some new moves,i cannot wait for these moves to actually come to fruition and the other side is in for a shock,i hope its this sunday has games are coming and going and we need to start winning.

I think just looking in from the outside that is the thing that people query . Not criticism , just bemusement due to the ignorance of not knowing the details ... We have lost a big weight off our salary cap , with Thacks and Calders supposedly on a decent whack , Dowes and Acton as well . And we started off with Walne as our player . We have three amateurs and Mcavoy for them ... Yet we allegedly are short of funds and have to go with what we have ? I can't remember us going with such a pared down squad

I know Big Red doesn't look particularly fit but didn't stop him bursting tackle after tackle end of last season. I would like to see him on the bench.

Looking at our cupboard I'd have him in there . Unfortunately none of the options are especially potent but for me his physicality has him in the make up . The work he's doing he must be fitter than last year . We've lacked that ' put the glasses down ' strike centre for a fair while .

I think the conditions will keep the game tight, as long as we can finish our chances off then we could sneak the win. A bonus would be ok but 3 points this week and against wales in a fortnight are looking like must haves. Our lack of pace could hurt us today, we won't be scoring from deep looking at the players available.
