There are, I think, further charges to be considered regarding Coulson and Goodman.

better topic title? Brooks innocent of all charges.

Where does this leave the "Stop Murdoch Coalition" of the Guardian, Leveson, Hacked Off, the Bureau of Investigative Journalism and Common Purpose? Dead in the water, I trust.

The media coverage I've seen today goes on about Brooks being "completely exonerated" (Telegraph).  No, she was found not guilty, we don't know whether this was the jury just not able to get over that final burden of beyond reasonable doubt or whether they thought the prosecution case was a bag of rubbish and she was completely innocent.

Brooks was having an affair with Coulson during much of this period, but there's no proof that she knew what he was up to.  They were working together, they were sleeping together.End of.

Cameron appointed Coulson despite warnings from all and sundry. Cameron is described by a European colleague as "a very poor negotiator"  Cameron is described by a Tory colleague as "bumbling from one shambles to another"

Why is this guy still being allowed to run things?

Not sure it mattered if she knew, she was up for a conspiracy charge, so would of had to have a hand in it?

Out in 9 months, multi million pound tell all book deal and a few years on the after dinner speech circuit. He will do very well out of this.

I find the costs involved staggering, 33 million quid according to The Guardian out of the public purse and the longest sentence dished out is 18 months, which as already said will no doubt see him out after 9.

Of course justice needs to be served but its a shame those costs can't all be clawed back from News International - or can they and the papers just fail to mention that bit?

I have read somewhere that the maximum sentence available for this offence is 2 years, and Coulson has been helpful in the investigation, so 18 months it is. Open prison, no doubt, nice and cushy.

Fall guy.

It's handy for that role that he's guilty as sin.

Thanks for that. Even if it's only partially true it exposes that end of "journalism" to be an absolute cesspit. What a repulsive place it must have been to work in.

The irony is that TNOTW used to, and other such rags still do, lecture the rest of us about morals and parade their victims as morally of a lower order.
