Corruption, sexual predation and war-mongering

One thing that's always made me scratch my head is how do paedophiles get to know each other in an enclosed environment like Westminster.  Even where people have known each other for decades I can't imagine it's something you'd find in the Westminster bar "I'm off to do highly illegal and immoral things to small boys, want to join in?"

I can understand the web forums where internet "anonymity" allows people to say and do things they could never do in a room full of strangers but physical meetings between like-minded individuals who have no clue that the others are like-minded individuals just strikes me as baffling.

Maybe when your morals have been that far degraded by doing those things it lowers your inhibitions and makes vile practices more "normal".

I think most of us have had experience with someone testing the waters a little with us.  Often, it is 'straight' men who assume we all secretly prefer gay sex really, but are all in the closet.  Or someone raising a topic that when you react with discomfort is never raised again.

I see what you're saying but there's a difference between a gay man testing out another man in what is a perfectly legal thing and suggesting something that's so inherently vile.

I once worked for an openly gay man in the tourism industry. He was absolutely adamant that he could tell the other gay men within seconds of seeing them in a room full of people. I'm not sure I believed him, but he did seem to have a string of partners and I never once heard of him "trying it on" with any straight guys. Maybe there are little mannerisms (subtle nuances of behaviour) that I don't recognise? Or maybe I'm just naive for not seeing what he claimed was obvious?

It's the alleged cover up that's the issue too don't forget.

Cover ups aren't the sole province of the 'upper echelons of society' either.

I rather think the OP is revealing their particular prejudice rather than casting light on to the ills of society.

what works for heterosexuals I guess works for gay people, why wouldn't it? Body language, eye contact, key words and so on.

The politics of sexual attraction doesn't have any relevance to paedophiles, since it involves coercion, predation and corruption. Paedophiles have victims victims not partners

I couldn't begin to imagine how these people recognise and network with each other,

Quite, but the original question was about how like-minded individuals could recognise each other. The follow-up was about how other groups of like-minded people could identify each other in a crowd without revealing their own personal predilections, whatever they might be.

I think your first line is probably right.

I've just had a thought. If paedophiles can recognise each other by "reading signs", couldn't non-paedophiles learn to read the signs and identify those who might seek to abuse children?

Most paedophile behaviour occurs with family members and often their friends and acquaintances

The paedophiles we seem to be talking about; members if 'rings' people with power connections and influence are clever, manipulative and cunning people. I don't know how they network and support each other, but it doesn't surprise me that they are capable of doing so

Agree completely.
