League Leaders Shield

44 posts in this topic

Who will win the League Leaders Shield this year? With four points between the top six teams and only four league games to go, it seems to be a tighter race than for a few years. Leeds and Wire have at least one extra game to play of course with the Challenge Cup on this weekend.

Who are you tipping?

I'll go for Wigan.

TBH I think Leigh have got it sewn up. Hopefully we can spoil their party on Friday.

I meant to put some money on Saints last year to win it when their signings for this year started being announced. I never got round to it so hopefully they won't win it just so I don't feel like I've lost a few quid. Suspect their injury list will scupper their chances at holding onto the lead.

I'd go along with the OP and Wigan to win it this year. As for the Grand Final, suspect that's between Wigan and Leeds at the moment but hopefully Wire or Giants can find some form and cause an upset or two. Not sure what Cas's run in looks like but surely they can't keep on winning can they. Would be great if they could though.

Warrington (A)

Bradford (H)

Wakefield (H)

Catalans (A)

All four are winnable, but more than likely three from four. That depends on how they deal with the semi final on Sunday and any possible final if they beat Widnes.

A pretty damn tough quartet of games for Warrington. Stevo might call it a quatrain though.  ;)

It won't be Saints.  We have no playmakers.  Can't win anything without playmakers as the team is just a bunch of headless chickens.

All in all some pretty interesting matches to look forward to in the next few weeks.

I reckon they'll find it tough.

Terrible luck with the injuries to Walsh, Lomax & Hohaia.

5th or 6th will suit us fine, this season, a home match followed by a trip to a losing team. Winning LLS last year took too much out of us.

Cup finalists will not win LLS, and we owe Saints after Brough drop goal outrage, which will allow Wigan the way through on final weekend.

Top four would be good.

Yep, I think Wigan on those run ins. Some damn good games to come in the final four though. We are in for a treat.

You're right unfortunately.

Walsh was the key but he is gone. I always though Gaskell would have developed enough to command a team by now. I guess his head is not in the right place or whatever.

Saints will lose by 10-12 points to one of the top 5 to exit the plays offs this season IMO.

4 points separating the top 6 sides surely not that's one team off half the league.

I've been informed by DSK that SL is not competitive and is dominated by 3 - 4 clubs. Might take his advice and watch my recorded Warriors v Raiders see if that is any better.

As of Round 23:

1. Saints - 34

2. Wigan - 32

3. Leeds - 32

4. Cas - 32

5. Wire - 30

6. Hudds - 30

Round 24:

Wire vs Cas

Saints vs Wakey

Rovers vs Wigan

London vs Leeds

Hudds vs Widnes

Round 25:

Wire vs Hudds

Leeds vs Saints

Widnes vs Wigan

Cas vs Bradford

Round 26:

Cas vs Wakey

Saints vs Wire

Wigan vs Leeds

Hudds vs Hull :(

Round 27:

Hudds vs Saints

Wigan vs Wire

Hull vs Leeds :(

Catalans vs Cas

End of season prediction:

1. Wigan - 40

2. Cas - 38 (greater points difference due to easier run of games)

3. Leeds - 38

4. Hudds - 38

5. Saints - 36

6. Wire - 34

I think given the fixtures, Saints injuries have come at the worst possible time for them.

Cas have got the easiest run-in (3 teams outside the top 6).

Wire have the hardest (all top 6 clubs), followed by Saints (3 teams in the top 6).

The rest have 2 of each, but Wigan have home advantage in those games so I have them to win all four.

I have Hudds to win all four also, including away to Wire (who I think may be involved in the CCF).

Guarantee now that this doesn't happen!

Alternatively, if I alter only a few predictions, it would be interesting is this were to happen!...

Round 24:

Wire vs Cas

Saints vs Wakey

Rovers vs Wigan

London vs Leeds

Hudds vs Widnes

Round 25:

Wire vs Hudds

Leeds vs Saints

Widnes vs Wigan

Cas vs Bradford

Round 26:

Cas vs Wakey

Saints vs Wire

Wigan vs Leeds

Hudds vs Hull :D

Round 27:

Hudds vs Saints

Wigan vs Wire

Hull vs Leeds :D

Catalans vs Cas

End of season prediction:

1. Wigan - 36

2. Cas - 36

3. Leeds - 36

4. Wire - 36

5. Saints - 36

6. Hudds - 36

I mean, that would be unbelievable, wouldn't it... Hull beating both Hudds AND Leeds to make the top 8! :D

Anything is possible

Wilkin has joined the list too.

I reckon we'll finish 4th or 5th. On the positive side this season has been an improvement on last year even if the final standings won't necessarily reflect that.
