Blue Monkey

"Gerald Doughty" aged 80

4 posts in this topic

In today's Advertiser in the Deaths section appears "Gerald Doughty" aged 80.

Realising that this is highly likely to be Lions left winger in pre-John Stopford times, Gerry Doughty who partnered Albert Blan before Blan's move into the forwards, I rang the undertaker in question.

I asked if they could tell me if he played for the Lions during his youth, but they could only confirm that he had been a 'rugby player'.

Just wondering, is anyone from the club going to acknowledge (once confirmed) this former Lion's passing and maybe convey the usual sympathies towards his family?

I asked my dad about him

He'd seen the death notice in the advertiser

He remembers him as a fast little winger and he lived off Charles st either on York or Grange Ave

Incidentally my old fella is 79

He enjoyed the challenge cup final and only fell asleep once

Obviously we don't know whether it was Gerry who has passed away, but I remember watching him in the 50s during the build up to our great team as can be seen from the photo
