A Radical Suggestion For Our Referees....

Recommended Posts

Based on what I've seen on the box and live this season why don't they make their lives a bit easier & stop being the main discussion point every week.

STOP:

- Wasting time in advance of games learning all the players first names.

- Coaching and praising the players throughout the game. The captains can do that.

- Having big on pitch debates about some of the less important decisions.

- Being so timid about punishing obvious foul play. especially high shots.

START:

- Consistently implementing the basic rules of the game especially forward passes, 10m rule, holding down in the tackle & ball stripping.

Their jobs are never easy but the performances I've seen this season have been some of the weakest and unacceptably ineffective I've ever seen

A radical suggestion for our professional RL players , stop messing about niggling the opposition at every opportunity , stop cheating , just concentrate on playing the game

A radical suggestion to our RL coaches , stop coaching players to cheat , stop finding new ways to spoil the sport that gave you a living most of your life , stop coaching your players to injure the opposition , start being honest in interviews about your games

Radical suggestions for our referees.

- Be responsible and accountable for the consequences of your decisions, just like players and coaches are.

- spend some time watching live games in the crowd so you can see yourselves as others see you.

If players can get away with it they will, hence the reason sports have referees, agree it's everyone who is accountable but the only people that never seem to be accountable and hold their hands up are the referees.

So how come referees get demoted.

Because of pressure from Sky and coaches.

Have you been watching the game long? The reason that I ask is that in olden times (pre SL) refs made loads of mistakes and ignored many technical errors and the players just got on with it - no media debate, moaning coaches, wittering forums. It isn't the refs getting worse, as some would have us believe, but a much more critical view being taken of their every action.

Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change.

So which players and coaches have ' put their hands up ' and admitted cheating ?

How about commentators not dissecting every ref decision and focussing on the sheer brilliance, athleticism, bravery and skill instead? The way Sky in particular harp on endlessly about every blow of the whistle detracts. I hate to praise the M5 corridor + London code but the general thrust of their commentators is to concentrate on the perceived skill on display.

Interviewer to Shaun Wane: 'What would you do if your daughter brought home a boy from St. Helens?'

Wane to interviwer: 'That won't happen' !
