Are The Wildcats going down the same road as Hunslet, Oldham & Swinton

Recommended Posts

Sorry to see Brian Smith's comments on the future of the Trinity . . . .  but this has happend in the past to Hunslet , Oldham & Swinton when they tried to keep up with Wigan, Leeds and Saints & Warrington in the past. All 3 sold their stadiums for a pitance and now dont posses two pence hapenny  between all 3 of them . . . Salford now seem to have found a benefactor , whom the Rugby Football league seem to want to drive away from our sport as hes threatening to break into the top 4 clubs. Maybe we should just award all the trophies to one of the above 4 and not bother palying anymore ???? Rugby League it seems has now gone the same way as Football and Rah Rah where only the clubs with the dosh survive and WIN ??????????????

And the reason for your optimism is ?????????????????

ive been on all four grounds in the 60's and 70's with 15,000 fans there , now with latter 3 there aint 1500 in all 3 added together, it just seems to me that Trinity havce been going DOWN this slippery slope for the last 15 years or so

We've paid our debts off, positive sounds regarding stadium situation. We're doing our best until stadium sorted then keep building the club. If we (York court , trust club) don't get ground sorted one way or another then that's a different story.

We are the famous Wakefield Trinity

One Club One City

Up the Trin

What's the positive sounds about the stadium? Is the Newmarket plan back on the agenda?

The opening question could've been posted back in the 70's when we not only got relegated but failed to get promotion the following season.

In more recent times Wakefield have been a creaking gate ever since the Pearman debacle. The fact that Smith didn't realise this before he took the job on says a lot about his lack of awareness relating to Super League.

This world was never meant for one as beautiful as me.

Well the Wakefield lads will understandably spin differently but to an extent Wakefield are going down that route.

They threatened to go share with and play in Dewsbury, at that time they faced a spiral of decline like Swinton, Hunslet and Oldham had they done this and had they dropped to the Championship then the slippery slope would have been their's.

It's "events" that dictate how clubs go and at any time a club can pick up a rich man to halt a decline or be looked favourably upon by their council and land a ground.

Featherstone were heading downwards as were HKR but Mark Campbell and Neil Hudgell reversed matters. For Trinity survival in the SL is key and the heavy advantage they have under the current system helps, even if Carter won't invest.

I'm afraid if they take the drop this year it would be bad news but even then anything can happen to bring good news.

It's perhaps only when clubs end up on the absolute floor for years that they become the hopeless case shells of once big clubs who once won multi-trophies in a season.........

Roughyedz, it could be the Wildcats are on that slippery slope, or not! And I really hope not.

But "Salford now seem to have found a benefactor , whom the Rugby Football league seem to want to drive away" Well they've got plenty fo help right  here so it should be pretty easy.

We have been watching four teams win the competition since the inception of SL. The only difference now is that it's only one of three teams that will win it.

SL is an absolute shambles. The competition is weak. The clubs are in disarray and mismatched. The crowds are often woeful. The structure is never settled. The management use gimmicks to build interest. The national media don't care. The corporate value between its main competitors has never been wider.

It is frightening

Sorry Sporty but is the evidence:  disarray, only 3 of the 4, etc ...... or all of them?

Here's a Leeds pack line up

Galloway, Falloon, Garbutt, Cutherbertson, Delaney, Achurch.

Notice anything about it?

However it's such a brilliant sport to watch that we can get away with some major problems.

Does "invest" mean something else when it is someone else's money Parky? If not, where do you make your investments?

Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change.

There is a lot to enjoy about SL whilst acknowlwdging there are things to work on.

The season so far has been extremely unpredictable. Widnes start on fire, Leeds and Hudds struggle after their playoff for the LLS last year. Catalan posting ever more impressive numbers off thei foeld and hopefully to get it right on the pitch! Wire and their signings looking good. Salford playing some exciting expansive rugby and not being far off, plus the controversy of Smith quitting early on. Enjoyable stuff as far as im concerned, plus we have a mushy pea sponsor finally!!!

If Wakey do go the same way as other clubs, and people have been aaying the same for years, well so be it. It will be sad for their fans, but we will always have strong and weak teams and teams rise and fall. Watching it happen, calling it wrong, the jubilation and the tears - all part of the fun.

If we want teams to grow and not constantly suffer then I believe the only way is 1 league of 16~18 teams with 1up and 1down relegation. More matches, more mid table nothing to play for but more security and revenue for the struggling clubs. Just look at Prem football lots of clubs finish lower half every season and flirt with relegation, most make money and play in spanking newer grounds and achieve nothingness year after year.

I'm not sure the comparison with football works more money and crowds generally and much more media coverage!
