Their Facebook says they're turning professional in 2015 and are the midlands' league rugby league club

I have not been on this forum for some time and with a quick read its easy to see why.

Having competed in NCL South for the last 3 years it was decided with a heavy heart to drop down a league due to the costs of running a team at this level.  As a club we spent on average 3k per season just on the first team on coach costs and our income level could not justify that.   Like many clubs we struggle for an income outside sponsorship and membership and until we can get that sorted it is unrealistic to play at a National Level.   The playing standard whilst being a lot higher than Midlands Premier was not an issue.

We are still having ongoing talks with the city council who have shown some interest in helping us secure a long term home ground.

We as a club will continue to be ambitious and push ourselves - the talent and appetite for RL in this city is huge and with a bit of luck and some more hard work we will back at that level and looking beyond in the not too distant future.

There are some great people working hard to grow the game in the Midlands.

I wish them and of the other clubs well.

Wouldn't it be fantastic if we could get those Coventry, Leicester, Birmingham and Nottingham derbies being played at professional level?

If we could get the Derby derby again it would be even better

It would be great if that could happen, however for me being at professional level is more than simply being a member of League 1. If Nottingham and Leicester joined League 1 by 2019 this wouldn't be a triumph for rugby league in the Midlands. It would be the start of another £150k a year being used to prop up teams which aren't competitive in League 1. I'd rather see the provision of say 6 development officers on £25k each a year with the sole purpose of developing the game here.

Currently there's probably less than 100 kids involved with rugby league in the Midlands at u15s and u16s level. If this is the 'base' of the pyramid, there's no point creating further professional clubs in the Midlands at the minute, all they would be doing is fighting over the same players who (the evidence would suggest) mostly aren't good enough in the first place.

I think a pro club should be entitled to the funding if they encourage grass roots rugby league in the local area
