Wood and Rimmer should be using social media more!

Recommended Posts

Kind of a spin off of my other social media thread.

With the Bradford Bulls saga in mind I think there's communication opportunities being missed to use social media to update the fans and also for senior representatives of the RFL such as Rimmer and Wood to connect with the fans and armchair supporters.

Look at how Trump uses twitter to promote and get his point across. The recent upturn in popularity of boxing can largely be attributed to the use of the sports senior figures such as Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren's use of Twitter and YouTube vlogs. They understand its power and are connecting directly to the fans.

RFL should be turning a negative bulls saga into a positive by streaming live updates on Facebook live, you tube or twitter.  We need to get the leaders of this sport to embrace this medium more in order to promote the sport.

RL'S online presence is diabolical.

Not so sure they could turn the Bradford scenario round as, reading some comments on that thread, they might catch a cold with that case.

Most definitely think that RL, as a whole, has to engage more using social media.  Maybe Wire fans can tell us how Draper faired with this?

I know Gus Gould is never off Twitter and controls it well, but other high profilers , like Willie Mason, continually have to block people due to abuse and I can't see any change in that for Wood, if he tried it.

You have to give a monkeys though .

The RFL board need to be held accountable for the demise of the Bulls , are they the NGB not supposed to monitor the spending and management of the clubs ?

No, the Bulls owners need to be held accountable for the demise of the Bulls. The RFL have gone way beyond what they probably should have in helping them out in their various incarnations. At some stage the accountability has to lie with the people running the club.

The sainted Richard Lewis had a policy that the RFL would be wise to stick to - and to their credit have done: the players are the stars of the game, not the administrators. That's why he was deliberately low-profile. We'd gone through years where everyone demanded to know what the thoughts of the man in charge of the RFL were. Maurice Lindsay was one of the five most famous people involved in the game.

That's not why people follow sport. The RFL should be low profile and discrete and make occasional statements on governance and crises such as the one afflicting the Bulls. They shouldn't be out there stating - and the lazy Rugby League press shouldn't be constantly demanding - their views on everything in the game.

Have you tweeted them to this effect?

Systems are in place within the NGB s OR and I have to disagree with you Mjm they do have to be accountable ,did they or did they not approve the regimes who have systematically destroyed the Bulls ?

So it was manslaughter, not suicide?

Don't know about social media but Wood should be getting his backside out of Red Hall more and fronting up to the media over these big issues. Whenever something happens in the NRL (good or bad - and there is a lot of bad) Todd Greenberg is there fronting up and making a statement to cameras. Wood gets away with slipping out a press release about Bradford without even accredited quotes. He got away with slipping out a statement over the Denny Solomona issue. It feels like he is not up for the fight of carrying the mantle. The salary goes with the target and you should be the voice of the game.

Gelling took over Wigan's twitter feed for a game last season and it was among the funniest things I read last year.

We should get our players twittering more and better - get them properly publicising and selling the game. Gelling appeals because he is a character and upbeat. Sam T is useless however - he even posts links to a Sale player like anyone would care. And used his feed to slag off one of the club's leading fans. The players should be coached, edited and their twitter accounts ghost written if need be.

Rather that than a picture of an all you eat buffet from our illustrious leader. On something as sensitive, confidential and serious as the Bulls the last thing we need are lols and rofls.

Think of it this way.  Nigel Woods can always lose weight. However,  there is no cure for what you don't have.

Four legs good - two legs bad
