howardm1978
No, you're a bit sensitive there.. Not sure I'm being arrogant though.. Sounded like he played very well any player with ambition is always going to take a chance to play at a different level. He's a local lad so probably restricted to Cumbrian clubs due to travel etc.. Fair enough. But, if you were a young player would you swap playing for your local club with the prospect of a good season of win bonuses and possible elevation next year with the increase in playing terms that goes with it. Or would you risk that for the prospect of a two hundred miles round trip drive twice a week for training plus another for match day ( IF, you were selected against a DR player from Huddersfield taking your place) and realistically how many win bonuses? Do Barrow with their average attendance of 1000+ and their own ground pay less than Oldham with their average attendance of circa 800(?) In a hired ground? (A clue to that is why todays game was at Craven Park.) Please, please, please dont take this as an anti Roughyed's rant, because I have a real affinity with Oldham. roughyed34
Could you please tell me Watersheddings, which two players you are referring to who didn't get a game today? Turner,Clay,Tyson,Warburton(Trialist),Leatherbarrow,Hewitt,Neal,Hughes,Spencer,Gee,Davies,Chisholm,Nield and Joy all played. Owen and Ward had prior engagements. Grimshaw,Chappell,Langtree,Thommo,Gill are on the injury list. No idea where Burke was today. So as you can see, we needed the DR players today to even have a full squad to put on the meadow,we generally use our first team players with a couple of DR players from Hudds, we didn't have much choice today but utilise the Hudds lads. No Huddersfield player was picked over a genuine Oldham player, we didn't have enough fit bodies without them!! Be interesting to know who the two players who missed out were then for the DR players to come in? Bearman the game was played at Barrow because Scott Naylor asked for it to be played there, he uses the trip as a tough ground to go to and a bonding exercise for the players. Nothing to do with the reason you insinuate. Anyway, Barrow played well today, would have won if your gobby number three hadn't been trying to banter with the Roughyeds fans behind the posts, he said "your not clapping anymore" and looking at the fans while Hewitt dived over for the last second try. Priceless. The look on his face was a picture. Good to see the big lad Brad Brennen(?) having the banter with the Michael Van Gerwen chant we gave him. Good luck for the season, you will go well, well drilled side with some good rugby played and some big units and pacy backs. Good effort today! shaw llewellyn
Not a fan of DR but appreciate that it can help both clubs. Of the 4 players used at Barrow Dickinson is practically an Oldham player with the number of games he has played and along with Smith and Wood was a solid performer. I expected more of Ormsby. Performance was better than at Swinton and will hopefully improve again for the Rochdale game. Our left side defence was poor allowing Barrow to score all 5 tries in the corner but give credit to Barrow for their attacking play. Young Harry Warburton did ok but I fear he is not big enough at the moment to cope with the demands at this level. Hope he plays against Rochdale on a good surface at Bower Fold and flies in for a hat trick to prove me wrong.
Anonymouse
young locals in Barrow , Haven and Workington , ie , Toal , Barrow , Burns and Holiday at Haven and Towns Ritson are all easily top end Championship players but playing part time for a Semi Pro Championship club outside Cumbria just wouldnt be practical . roughyed34
From the camera angle looks like Dave Hewitts try at the end was deffo onside! Not sure how the ref gave a knock on just prior to the try, looked like the ball went backwards to me. Lots to work on for the coaches this week. Thanks for the info Lifer. roughyed34
Ah right, fair enough Watersheddings. Like it or not though we will use DR during the season. In an ideal world we would have a first team squad of maybe 25/26 players but we can't run to that unfortunately, I'm ok with DR as long as our own players (when fit) don't suffer.
