Well the draw for NRL 2018 has been made.

The standalone Origin 2 will be a help to Supercoaches next season

The 2018 draw is a ‘win for the fans,’ they say.

Well it’s a win for the casual SuperCoach punter, too.

Unlike previous seasons, Origin II is on a stand-alone weekend, limiting the bye aspect of the schedule.

Just two NRL rounds are bye-influenced, in fact. Just two.

That means less to worry about, constructing rosters in the pre-season.

Take a look.

So we can all breathe a sigh of relief, for starters.

Gone are the days of strictly planning when to target players from certain clubs, navigating through the minefieldthat was bye schedule of years passed

Origin players should only miss one scheduled NRL match, in either Round 13 or 17.

There will be four games in each of those two rounds.

So ...

Do not be deterred drafting anyone, specifically.

There won’t be many players missing back-to-back weeks.

BUT. In tiebreak situations, when you’re tossing up between one similar player and another, certainly favour non-Origin players with a Round 17 bye.

So, guns like Sam Burgess, Paul Gallen, Marty Taupau and Nathan Brown should be some of the first players plugged in.

PLUS

No club will have more than three five-day turnarounds.

I think that’ll help ensure players’ minutes aren’t compromised as much, with coaches ‘managing’ their players.
