Keighley player Emmerson Whittel has jaw broke by Fryston fans

Keighley Cougars have issued the following statement following incidents at yesterday’s game against Fryston Warriors.

The club has today recieved official confirmation from the RFL that an investigation is taking place into the brawl that marred an otherwise enthralling cup tie.

Emmerson Whittel sustained a broken jaw and we believe as a club that the way he was man handled by numerous Fryston players is not in the spirit of the game.

The club have also requested that the ear bite on Josh Lynam is reviewed thoroughly by the RFL.

Finally, the club have also lodged a formal complaint in regards to the manner our players and staff were treated upon arrival.

Both the 19 man squad and members of the backroom staff were refused entry to the ground without a valid matchday ticket.

The players allocation of family and friends tickets was then claimed to have been used to admit the playing squad to the ground.

The club is outraged by this development and will now not make any further statements as we await a full report from the RFL.

I think that the number 11 who was kneeing the Keighley player in the face and was pulling his shirt over his head so he couldn't defend himself should start looking for another sport to play as he isn't going to be playing RL in a long time and the number 7 who threw punches and then stood behind his teammate is a new Ryan Bailey in the making.

The,don't drop the soap in the shower game might be worth learning.

fryston at Sharlston, same number 11 at 3:50?

Have you watched this all he way through? The amount of dangerous flops, tip tackles and attempts at fighting is staggering!

Some teams base their reputation of trying to scare teams into submission through this behaviour. This team is obviously one of them. But the RFL won't do anything about them, never have and never will and until they realise this nothing will change. One of two games where fights flare up can be expected I suppose, but when a team/club has so many incidents and is obviously doing it time and time again need banning! Not warned... Banned!

How can the RFL expect to start to increase numbers from 18s to open age, when parents and players see teams like this?

I think your gripes should be directed at BARLA or the Pennine League for the above match, disciplinary would have been outside of the RFL's remit

im sure the RFL will take appropriate action against them for what's happened in the Challenge Cup this week

My word that is absolutely shocking footage and a disgrace to their name as well as shaming the sport . Unfortunately on occasions amateur players and fans get totally overhyped and cross the line when they get pro teams , but this is extreme and they should be only reading about the challenge cup for a few seasons , and the players concerned shouldn't be playing rugby league - as they obviously weren't interested in doing there . Let's hope the rfl find their guts and act appropriately

Rugby League just continues to sink to new lows.

As shocking and disappointing as these incidents are it does not represent lower standards in the sport.

In decades gone by the sport was far more violent than it is today... in fact some of the most violent players and incidents have gone down in folk law and some people even crave a return to those times.

The difference is that today with instant video and social sharing they will be picked up on far more and maybe become viral.

Of course, this does not mean we should not throw the book at these people and ban players who commit such acts.
