Stories like this are always sad to hear and a reminder of how short and fragile careers are.

Absolutely . I think it was Matt Duffie who had three or four serious shoulder injuries and two ACL injuries in pretty much consecutive seasons

This is so true. The likes of Darrell Goulding will vouch for that after being forced to retire at 27 due to repeated concussions and ultimately a bleed on the brain :

I always think of this whenever I hear players called "mercenaries" for leaving clubs for more money. You could be one game away from a career-ending injury and then what do you do?

I think the words "Nigel" and "Wright" belong somewhere on this thread...

Donaldson out for the rest of the season with another injury. A real shame, as the lad always had a lot of potential. A bit like Gary Wheeler, a case of what could have been.......

I'm sure I'm remembering correctly that wire played the bulls in the cup in 2010 and he did a knee in, out for the season, he then came back and we were playing them in the league the next season and he did anotherseason ending injury to a knee.

Gary Wheelers career has been blighted by injury

The one who really strikes me as tragically unlucky was Nigel Wright, he had the type of skill and physique to be genuine World Class but injuries destroyed him.
