Before anyone goes ballistic about this. I can only assume that Heighington is there as local cover to save any more English SL players having to fly out. Call it a Wood money saver if you will! McQueen may be a different story.

My gripe is that after cancelling the Dubai trip, England should have had 24 players over there as a team bonding preparation week. Go big or go home.

Good squad fine with Heighington being included since he has played for England before but can't understand McQueen being included especially since he has played for Queensland in the past.

I agree completely. As I've just edited into my last post, My gripe is that after cancelling the Dubai trip, England should have had 24 players over there as a team bonding preparation week. Go big or go home.

Heighington has a Nigel Wood money saver written all over it.

McQueen is odd, anyone know how he's been doing this season - I havent been paying attention

Tom Burgess but not George - previously George was the better of the two imo

Overall im happy with the squad

I think George is up before the disciplinary and may have to sit some weeks out. McQueen has been playing really well. But he was also playing really well last year and was not picked.

Presumably Sarginson will provide cover for the backs as the back 5 picks itself. Heighington is the standout pick - he wasn't good enough last time round and it's difficult to see how he'll be better as a 35 year old. Having said that, i'd be amazed if he got anywhere near the team, and he should find it even harder to get near it once Currie is back fit again.

Heighington and McQueen, what are we doing. They're not English and have shown no desire to make us there no.1 priority. Get them out.

Pleased to see Gale get a go, he's been great this year.

So what?
Former SOO players are good for Ireland etc., but not for England?

Pleased that McMeeken has got deserved recognition, great player to have on the bench, gives more options than most others.

Decent looking squad . Only 20 so a few you'd like to have seen miss out , but I've no complaints with him having a look a players , that's what it's for , and I don't think we should beat ourselves up for doing what every other side is doing . If eligible committed and the coach thinks will add something then fine . I'm surprised anyone is surprised Bennett did this .

Correct, England don't need any Aussie picking us as their second choice because they can't get in their own team.

Correct Woody, we have alternatives, Ireland, or Scotland and Wales for that matter don't, we should stick to our own, don't make an abortion of International selection like the Rah Rah's do.

As England has a fully professional League and 2 part time leagues as well as a relatively robust amateur setup compared to Ireland etc who have none of these then no for England it isn't good enough.

Like the players, I am surprised we chose Bennett.

Staines' first international. At last something for that town to celebrate!

I agree that Heighington must be a palace saver for Currie or Bateman. It kills Farrell's international career stone dead which I think is harsh but maybe he is simply too small ever to challenge the Roos or Kiwis. Whee does MCQueen play - wiki says second row, lock or centre?

Results tell me the opposite.
England hasn't won v Australia since when...?
So yes, a player not good enough for Australia can happen to be good enough for England.

If heritage players can't play for England, then we'd better abolysh them from the game and go back to a 4-5 teams World Cup.
And please don't play Samoa, as they're full of heritage players.

Italy won the 2006 World Cup in football with Mauro German Camoranesi, a player who came to be better than its Argentinian colleagues.

A league that is miles away from the NRL, in terms of level/intensity.
England's best n. 6 was actually produced by the Australian system.

It's hypocrite not to want heritage players in your team, while talking about selection for a match against a team full of them.

Toms been better than George this year but apart from last week neither have been great. Can't for the life of me see how McQueen and Heighinton get into this team. In fact if I was picking a 24 man squad I don't think they'd get in.

It's a conscious thing for me Woody, I would sooner lose gracefully other than win and employ those who do not belong.
